Mrs SLB & I will be in Cairns (CNS) next month staying on the waterfront (before & after a week on a liveaboard) - any suggestions for good food/things to do in & around the town? (Looked at previous threads & the latest was 2001!)

.. a while since I have RON CNS but Barnacle Bill's is a must (and on the waterfront) ... try booking the bouillabaisse the night before so they can marinade it for the intervening period. Food to kill for ...

Sadly didn't find Barnacle Bills until it was too late to order (we were only there for a couple of nights before & after). Downtown Cairns seems to be undergoing a bit of a work-over with a LOT of new building going on - the century-old Cairns Yacht Club's scheduled to be torn down as the site's so valuable (sounds like some southern England YCs).

Found reasonable beer & even Strongbow cider at PJ O'Briens with the added bonus of a good steak or fish & chips for $5!

Have to give full marks to the crew of our return flight QF175 - it was delayed by a leak in the tail tank but we were kept fully informed by the captain while the cabin staff helped hand out water, drinks & food while we waited.
