| Loads of good food in the Ginza area. For places to visit: Lion beer hall was the first German-style beer hall in Japan. 1930's decor. At the major junction with the Waco building, work out how they get cars into the Nissan showroom. Things vaguely within walking distance: old imperial duck hunting ponds (Hamarikyu) next to Tsukiji fish market (which now has visitor restrictions). Gompachi restaurant opposite Seiyo Hotel: average food, a bit touristy. Zest Tex-Mex, Boheme, Saigon (cheap), ISola Blu upscale pizzeria, Brasserie Paul Bocuse, China White (Cantonese), Raffles Terrace (Singaporean)... but you'll have more fun just popping into small places. There's no bad food in Tokyo. Other things to see: Kabuki at Kabuki-za, the Apple store, the food sections in the basements of all the department stores (Mitsukoshi, Matsuya etc), model trains above the jewelers next to Waco, walk up to the Palace, Mikimoto, etc etc. Some nice specialty shops one or two streets back from the main drag. Dunhills (barber, bar, shop). Short walk to Bic Camera at Yurakucho if you like stuff: Find the station, pass under the tracks. I dunno, it just goes on and on... A few minutes on the subway takes you to many more interesting places. |
