Colorado - tips

I am off to the US, Out of Africa, next week for some chopper recurrency at Flight Safety in Ft. Worth / Dallas, and then plan to drive through the Rockies in Colorado for 3 weeks on holiday.
I know it is not the best time for weather, and will try remember to drive on the wrong side of the road, but would appreciate any tips on places to see and where to stay / eat, etc.

Thanks

If you go to Denver you might want to try the Buckhorn for lunch.
In Golden, next to Denver you may want to visit
The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave and while you're there, take a tour of the Coors Golden brewery. Past Golden, are the sisters towns of Black Hawk and Century City, two casino centers and historical sites of the gold rush. If you go to Colorado Springs you might want to visit the U.S. Air Force Academy and/or the Peterson Air & Space Museum. If there is still some snow by the time you get there make sure not to miss some slope and lodge time in Vail.

That's how much I can contribute for Colorado. As for lodging depends on your budget;
www.tripadvisor.com might be a good starting point for your search. Hope it helps, Cheers.

Thanks for the info, my data base is growing by the day.
I will have 3 weeks, but being a chopper boy out of Africa I will be wary of trying to ski at my age.
Far from the madding crowds and the scenery is what we will be after, and being a colonial as well - must remember to drive on the wrong side of the road ! Just hope the roads are not too wet and slippery.
I leave Angola tomorrow for Dallas, and will start my final flight planning for Colorado next week.

Keep the revs up fellow, the moon is yellow tonight.

C7, Glonass is right. If you are cruising on the I70 Stop off in Vail, certainly one of the best ski resorts in the States. Anyway enjoy the I70 the drive and views through the Rockies is fascinating. Roads are kept pretty well clear of snow and slippery is not really a problem
Hope you enjoy it all.

If you are in Golden, Table Mountain Inn is a nice place to stay. Rates vary a fair bit and the restaurant in very good.

Going south through Leadville is supposed to be a good drive.

Depending on your time Northern NewMexico, Taos and Santa Fe are interesting areas.

Colorado Springs

We could not get a flight out of Dallas today, so will nightstop in Colorado Springs tomorrow night on our way south to Durango. Sunny skies forecasted for the weekend, and if the wx turns bad....well then, Santa Fe / Taos here we come !
