Grand Hotel, Malahide, Ireland

Folks,

I'm looking to spend a weekend in Malahide in a few months time. Anybody have any experiences staying in the Grand Hotel?

Would love to hear your thoughts/views/opinions etc on this establishment...

Cheers

Very nice. Check out Gibneys for a good pint.

You're also just a short walk from the train. Malahyde is a great place. I spent a month there, a few years ago.

There also used to be a small, very cheap hotel across the street called The Grove, with a good bar.

I'm attending the Eric Clapton gig at Malahide Castle, do you know if Malahide Castle is within walking distance of the Grand Hotel?

Cheers

Malahide is a great little village.

Check out Tripadvisor for feedback on the Grand, seems to be mixed. I call in the odd time for a pint and it's okay.

The Grove is now closed.

To be honest, I've just tried to pick the hotel best suited for getting to/from Malahide Castle for the gig. Not looking for anything palatial, just somewhere to kip. Planning to be out-and-about the rest of the time.

Thanks for the info guys.

and remember you are very close to the beach where Jim Mollison(Amy Johnson's husband) either took off or landed on his record breaking Atlantic flight

From an Irish colleague who lived in Malahide:

The Grand is in the village. About 3 minutes walk to Gibneys or Smyths which are my favourite pubs. About a 15 minute walk to the castle. Never stayed there but its just had a refit so should be good.

There are cheaper hotels around but not in Malahide. Closer to the airport and not as nice surroundings.

Stayed in the grand a few years ago, very nice hotel. I'd definetly recommend the 3 min walk to gibneys as well, top place to drink!

Thanks again folks for all the advice. I'll be at the Clapton gig on the Saturday night, but Gibneys is the plan for the Friday night
