A400M over Shetland

Thank you to the A400 crew(s) who visited yesterday. I missed it but Mrs T was most impressed, as were many of the other islanders. A nice change from the usual O&G & FlyMayBe traffic.

Any plans for a return to 60oN?

When I was at Sumburgh in 1972, we regularly had things like Nimrods doing flypasts in the guise of 'practice diversions'.

Saw one mincing about near Waddo last week. In fact it was the noise that first drew me to it. That has got to be one of the most dreadful aircraft sounds I've ever heard. I'm not too sure how many they have at Brize, but that buzz/whine must drive the locals crazy.

And I thought the Tucano was bad!!!

You obviously don't have Apache flying over your house all times of day or night, now that is an annoying noise. I can't think why they built the things using gearboxes left over from Ford Model T 's.

And Apaches are so slow when in transit (about 100 kt GS)so the noise lingers for longer. At least the A400 should do 250 ish at low level.
