Quote "Eurofighter Typhoon is the most advanced multi-role combat aircraft currently available on the world market".

Ahh marketing guys, got to love them.

I don't actually see a problem with that statement.

The statement was made by the RAFO, what platform is available to them on the, "world market" that is better than Eurofighter?

The quote was not made by RAFO. It was made by BAE within the website, and not attributed to anyone.

Stuff,

Strike Eagle or Superhornet offer a wider variety of weaponry, paired with a more capable AESA radar for starters. Case in point the Strike Eagle can carry LGB, JDAM, LJDAM, SDB, JSOW, JASSM, SLAM-ER, Harpoon.

As we speak the Typhoon brings PW4, which whilst it is flexible like a LJDAM, can only do so much.

I don't think that anyone would be arguing that a Typhoon is more advanced by the F-35 either.. Except BAE.

Why should they buy American when the British have pulled them out of the crap years ago.

As far as I'm concerned, Oman can purchase whatever they want. Politics trumps finance / capability all of the time. The statement that was called into question however was "Eurofighter Typhoon is the most advanced multi-role combat aircraft currently available on the world market". The statement is questionable at best.

Besides, it would seem that they have an each way bet, given they have a bunch of F-16 already in service.

Bit sparing with the facts flighthappens. And you're surely not suggesting that F-16 is in any way comparable?

I'm not arguing that. Are you saying RAFO has been offered F-35 and chose Typhoon over it?

Stuff.

Nope. But you are the only person who is introducing the caveat 'offered/available to Oman'

Not me, nor Fonsini in his response that you originally replied to, and certainly not BAE systems.

You listed various ordnance for Strike Eagle and Super Hornet; but credited Typhoon with only PW4, ignoring the other multi-role options - both present and future. Sort of tactic that I endured during my time in Canberra!

Jindy - the difference being with F-15 strike or Super Hornet that those weapons, and AESA, are available now, and have been for some time, and are in squadron service around the world. If we really want to quibble, where I was slightly generous was the SLAM-ER / Harpoon to the strike - it is carried in the Korean variant (F15K). In addition if you really want to get into it the Strike Eagle can carry MALD, AESA SAR Mapping pods, can TFR with either Radar or Flir, all capabilities that Typ does not have and is not planned to have.

For Typhoon, in its current fit in service (not in testing/ future plans) there is no AESA, no cruise missile, no brimstone, and no standoff (SDB / JSOW) or 2000lb weapons.

Describe to me what you think the term "world market" means? Do you think the F-35 is available to all and sundry on the "world market"?

I'm not sure what your agenda is but you are misrepresenting both the Typhoon capability and the RAFO statement.

Is typhoon available to all and sundry? Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Saudi, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Syria or even Argentina? Wherever shall I draw the line?

For the third time, the statement discussed is BAE marketing guff in the second last paragraph of the link. If you were to read the link closely, you would see that all of the statements are Chris Boardman for BAE, and not RAFO. They also speak in absolutes - "most advanced combat jet and proven training aircraft in the world" - rather than qualifying the statement with "available to Oman" or "on the world market".

Lastly - why not explain to me why and how the Typhoon capability leads to it being superior aircraft? Please correct me as to how I have misrepresented Typhoon capability - in the current guise of the aircraft.

Good to see they went for an imaginative 'Omani' colour scheme on the Tyhpoo

"Hmmmm. What colour are we going to paint it?"

"Look boss - I founds these old tins of grey paint at the back of the hangar"

"Change the labels and we'll charge 'em double"

Sketch: Aircraft Salesman (A door in the foot.)

(Voices in the Background....fair ground callers):
Roll up roll up...this is the plane you want. Wanna try a fast plane sir....fast plane. Knock the pilot out of the air...three goes one mark...

Voice of Air Defence Minitster (Strauss): NEXT!
Cut to Voice of American Salesman (warm and friendly as a TV ad for cigarettes used to be)
Salesman: Hi there. We understand you want to buy some airplanes.
Strauss: That is correct.
Salesman: Well we make ariplanes. Good ones. Fast and reliable. Let me just show you this. Look at this picture. This is the F104. Or the Starfighter as we like to call her. Isn't she beautiful. Yep. She sure is beautiful. Designed by the same man who designed the famous U2.
Strauss: (dreamingly) The U2....
Salesman. Yes. It's the finest fairweather fighter on the market. You won't find a better one at the price. Or any price for that matter.
Strauss: Yes, it's very nice. But we need a plane for bombing, straffing, assault and battery, interception, ground support and reconnaissance. Not just a fairweather fighter!
Salesman: Well, that's ok. We can make some modifications. It'll cost a little extra, but it's worth it. Just look at the shape of this beauty. Look, I tell you what we'll do. We'l redesign the plane, right? And instead of just calling it the F104, we'll call it the F104G.
Strauss: G?
Salesman: Yeah, eh, Herr Minister - G. G for Germany
Strauss: G. for Germany, eh....
Salesman: Yeah, ehm, G for Germany, Herr Minister, you know, it'll go well on the plane, we could do a logo around it and it would look very taste up in the clouds. We could illuminate it a bit - so, that on dark days you would see it twinkling like a star.
Strauss: G for Germany..? Also G for Gott strafe England... (God punish England)- - this I am enjoying. (laughter) G for Germany!!

I can't believe that an argument has developed over a marketing blurb. Grow up, guys; BAE are hardly going to say anything else, are they?

1980s Thumrait 6(Snoopy's Own) Sqn Hunters seemed to be very effective in grey,
