Zumwalt Breaks Down, Gets Tow in Panama Canal


The US 3rd Fleet in San Diego was able to provide only a few details late Monday evening, but early reports indicated the problems stemmed from an issue with heat exchangers in the ship’s integrated power plant, which provides electrical power to both the propulsion plant and sensors, weapons and ship’s services.

I suspect that the MPA (Main Propulsion Assistant), LT Scott, is down in the engine spaces muttering something about dylithium crystals.

And the Jimmy has concluded that no matter how improbable the failure of the Zumwalt propulsion system, when you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

Sad times though, not sure why no-one can make ships that work in warm water.

The American fish heads refer to the officer-in-charge of the donks as the Main Propulsion Assistant.

All ships and modern kit have moments on unreliability - the difference is we tend to be a bit more open about our failings than other nations...
