Sound barrier
What are the rules for military aircraft breaking the sound barrier?
Last week there was a loud bang followed by a quieter one, obviously caused by an aircraft breaking the sound barrier, I live fairly close to the North Sea.

Who knows - it may have been intercepting an armed Russian aircraft in time to deter it from entering UK airspace with the intention of evaporating Sunderland.
On the other hand, perhaps a hand slipped on the thrust levers.... and before they knew it they had dropped a little boom.

There has been a recent military exercise over the North Sea in NOTAMS ; possibly something involved in that made the boom.
