US Launches Air Strikes In Libya

Breaking news - manned and unmanned aircraft - target Sirte.

From Pentagon: "Today, at the request of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), the United States military conducted precision air strikes against ISIL targets in Sirte, Libya, to support GNA-affiliated forces seeking to defeat ISIL in its primary stronghold in Libya," Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said in a statement.

Some further reportage, but it's early yet.
In Washington, Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said in a statement that the strikes had been approved by President Barack Obama.
Dudley Moore was not available for comment (since he passed away over a decade ago).

Bombing targets of opportunity is good training, but it will do nothing to deter the rampant Islamists. Sadly, like Irish Nationalism, it will be a long slow process of 'Heart and Minds', and that hasn't even worked yet.

This stain on the Planet will continue long after we all have departed the fix, as it will inevitably become 'culturally imbedded' amongst those of a certain persuasion with an extremist perspective.

This is a "proper" campaign planned by US AFRICA COMMAND - not just looking for targets of opportunity.

The Aviationist reports:

Operation ODYSSEY RESOLVE - ISR Phase.
Operation JUNCTION SERPENT - Targeting Information
Operation ODYSSEY LIGHTNING - Attack Phase

AH-1Ws from USS Wasp are reported to have taken out some armored vehicles including 2 x T-72 MBTs with Hellfire.

MQ-9 Reapers from Sigonella may also involved.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The above is based on specialist aviation press Tweets - not yet confirmed by the Pentagon.

Seasons don't fear the reaper ... but a few ISIS goons in Sirte do now.
