The Delightful Dr Dewi Morgan....
I'm very sad to report that Dewi, latterly of IAT and AME-ing, and a whole lot before that, has passed away.
Funeral is planned for 1st July in Salisbury Wilts.

That's awfully sad news. I last saw him for my medical last year just before he left his Salisbury practice - I'd hoped he'd have a much longer full retirement.

What very sad news but thanks to Dave Fry for letting us know.
I knew Dewi for over 30 years from the days when he worked at Boscombe Down as the Aviation Medicine specialist who did all of our aeromed training; many a hypoxia chamber run livened up by Dewi's Welsh humour! During his time in that job we flew together in Tornado F2, Hunter and Hawk as he took the opportunity to fly whenever he could, and he really understood what we did.
We kept in touch and for many years he was my AME and I renewed my medical with him last year only a couple of days before he retired. They were probably the longest medicals that I have ever had anywhere because it took a good 2 or 3 hours to catch up on what we and mutual friends had been doing over the previous 12 months. And then he would fill in the declaration form seemingly knowing my weight and number of units of alcohol consumed per week by telepathy! Bur he was a rare breed in that he was a doctor who I trusted and felt that I could always get good advice and help from on health issues without fearing for my flying category.
I am so glad that I have very happy memories of Dewi's wonderful personality and friendship. He was a truly delightful person.

Very sad news! Did 4 medicals with him while I was a CAA ATCO at Boscombe, then all bar one of my annual meds after posting to LHR in '86 until retirement.
Smashing guy with loads of interesting tales to tell, particularly of his time in Saudi when IIRC he was the Aeromed Man for their Lightning guys.
I guess he must have been in his early 70s?

I knew him well, I worked two doors down the corridor from his office at Boscombe, indeed I often had his patients appear in my office after they had turned left instead of right at the top of the stairs.

Very saddened to read this. Dewi had been my AME for over a decade. His last day of work was only last year, 30 Sept, and I was one of his very last candidates. He was clearly struggling at the time over the passing of his daughter. It was always an honour and a huge pleasure to attend his surgery at West Grimstead. A lovely gentleman. My sincere condolences to his family.
Sad news, a Gentleman and proud Welshman - I always felt VERY guilty producing a wee sample in the carpeted WC. Tried to catch him out once having not spotted a certain Airline's Sick Bag, of course he had it in his Office!
Loved his Boscombe Down stories, what a modest chap, a great loss to our community.

I share LOMCEVAK's timeline in not missing one single renewal in Dewi's wine cellar, err, "consulting room". A true gentleman and one of aviation's finest, if not the best, AMEs.

Dewi's funeral will take place this Friday, 1st July, at Salisbury Crematorium at 1515 followed by a gathering at his home, Silver Birches, West Grimstead afterwards. His daughter, Sian, has said that his friends and AME clients are all welcome to attend. If you plan to go, could you please let Sian know via [email protected]. Let's give Dewi the send off that he deserves!
As 5aday has said, a tremendous turn out of friends, colleagues and 'customers' to say farewell to Dewi and to support his family. There were many great tales and I am sure that we all learned something about him that we did not know before. There was some discussion about whether any one person could actually be unique. The conclusion was that Dewi was unique because, surely, there is no-one else on earth who has such an extensive collection of sick bags from around the world!
It was a great gathering of the clans but, sadly, one person was missing.

I have only just heard this terribly sad news. Dewi became my AME after takeing over Jimmy Crammond's practice in Seale. I followed him to Salisbury and was greatly saddened when he told me it would be my last renewal with him in March 2015. He was indeed unique and completely delightful. I will always remember him very fondly. Hwyl fawr am nawr Dewi
Typically belated, I've only just seen this thread, and the memories of the 20 or so years of my association with Doc Morgan as my AME, and my regular class 1 renewals, are fond indeed.
His reply on one renewal when I asked what the point of the frequent renewals were, for a healthy individual such as myself (cough!) - "I'm making sure you don't fail catastrophically in the next 6 months". !!!
