With all due respect to all the other fast taxi runners, who were all excellent, and are incredibly well presented and maintained, nothing is quite like the compression one feels in the chest when the Lightning gives it the beans with both burners plugged in......

Problem with Duxford was that only pre bought tickets were permitted which apparently saw coaches being turned away. This coupled with the fiver charged for car parking meant that it was rather quiet. To be fair I suspect the changes were made to reduce queuing traffic on the approach roads, however if they had allowed people to pay on the day at the Park and Ride sites and then be bussed in that would have avoided so many disappointed people. Let's hope they review things before Flying Legends!

Currently all Shows at Duxford in 2016 are advance ticket only brokenlink. I did talk to someone in the know a few weeks ago and was told that the ticket sales for the same show were half as many as the same stage last year.
I was there on Saturday and it was very quiet indeed for a Duxford show.

Well I had to pass Duxford to get to Stansted from Cambridge and found there was a classic car show on at the airfield. The A505 roundabout was blocked by people going to the airfield, no police control and the people (nearly used another word) were very reluctant to leave a gap on the roundabout to let cars get to the M11. I think they went ticket-only after the 2 Lancasters were there a couple of years ago and closed the gates at 0930 and not even Friends of Duxford could get in.

I made the long trip down to Brunty from Moray and have to agree that it was a great weekend. Sadly Nimrod XV226 had a few too many problems that stopped it doing any sort of taxy run. Not including the rudder (which I believe is going to be replaced) I was on board for the pre show ground run on Sunday essentially to check out the stubborn #2 Engine out (from Saturday) , all went fine until it just quit, we found the snag quite quickly once it was shut down, but the brakes were also a bit spongy as well, so Bob T called it a day and we pulled her onto Bay 1. a bit of a shame really as Bob was really keen to do a very gently slow taxy for the crowd. The guys and gals at Brunty are superb and all of them love their aircraft to bits, but I have to admit the Lightning was something else.
Thanks Techie 101 for the Nimrod video. XV226 was a great aircraft (especially at St Mawgan- banter!), so it was lovely to see her performing so well in her retirement.

Perhaps just as remarkable, is that by the end of this year, the LPG team will have been maintaining/fast taxiing a live Lightning for longer than the aircraft served the RAF in frontline squadron service
Not to mention taking on another one (now two with the static F.3) and rescuing and rebuilding the Wattisham Q shed etc.

Mine were taken with a Box Brownie .... Ok, I own up, I used a
Canon 1DX with a Canon 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6L IS II and a Canon 1.4x III Convertor and are cropped down from the originals.
Lightning pictures in the QRA sheds and outside it were with a Canon 24-105mm F/4 L lens
