Flt Lt Ian 'Slapper' Thyng

For those not on FB, Slappers daughter Sophie has announced his most untimely demise. A top man who I worked with on Canberras and F3's. I remember being in a bar with him in Amman where all the women present were convinced he was George Clooney's double. I was horrified at the prospect of being in the one location on the planet where he was irresistible to women!

RIP Slapper.

I do not really know what to say. My thoughts are with his family.

Many memories from time on 1435 together, all of which make me smile.

RIP mucker.

If there's any info regarding memorial/donations etc, would be very grateful if anyone in the know could post.

Sad news indeed.

From our first meeting at Biggin Hill whilst doing our Sixth Form Scholarship stuff back in 1981, it was obvious that there would never be a dull moment with Slapper around.

Condolences.

Unbelievable.

Was at Wyton with Slapper in the 80's....it took 12 months for me to discover his real frst name. Happy memories of the Happy Hour antics, particularly when he caught the unsuspecting with a full pint and the immortal phrase E..... S.....

Haven't met many characters like him since. Echo the comments - way too soon.

My most heartfelt condolences to Sophie on the loss of her Daddyo. I'm really sad to hear of Slapper's death; much, much too early and I've thought of the many beers, laughs and just quite ridiculous times that involved Slapper, from holding at Wyton when he was there to many outrageous and hilarious moments on F3s. I'll never forget a long weekend in Prague back in the 90s when Slapper managed to lose his passport but obviously kept hold of his beer and fags. Priorities!

Rest in Peace Slapper.

(Details of funeral arrangements from anyone would be very much appreciated.)
