Kiwi World War II flying hero Keith Thiele dies

Sad to see another WW2 pilot make his final landing. Hadn't heard about you until I read your obituary but so very glad of your contribution to the winning of the war. RIP Sir.

S/L Thiele was a flight Commander with 467 Sqn at Bottesford when he finished his second tour on Lancasters. He was invited to Scampton where he was interviewed by Guy Gibson who recommended him to take command of 617 Sqn after Gibson had been taken off ops. Theile refused however, telling Gibson that he had had enough of bombers and wanted to fly fighters instead.
