MI-28N crash during display at Ryazan airbase in Russia
The Russians seem to be suffering very high military aviation accident rates of late.
I'm not suggesting this as a factor in this incident but reducing spending and support for your Air Force over many years and then suddenly telling them to ramp up the number and difficulty of sorties is bound to have some unforseen consequences.
Sympathies for the dead Commander, RIP.

Nothing obvious out of this dramatic footage... The aircraft seems structurally intact till impact. If it was an engine issue they had plenty of space for an auto rotation. Sad.

I am a) not an expert and b) not a helicopter pilot, but it looks like the tail rotor speed reduces as the aircraft begins to spiral down.
It could, however, be a trick of the frame rate / camera etc....

Not an expert but to my eye looks like power failure going up to the vertical even as or before the flares are dumped. (The other Heli appears to pass him in the climb. It might just be the camera strobing but it also looks like bits are missing from the tail rotor.
Good attempt at recovery but a very sad outcome.
RIP

Nothing obvious apart from the;
tail rotor appearing to slow down and the aircraft spinning continuously in Yaw until it hits the ground. My theory would be that the power demand to hover at the top of the cyclic climb was the final straw for some part of the transmission.

I'm guessing that is just a translation of the hydraulic systems.
One thing we can say for sure is that the aircraft has fantastic crashworthy seats.
p.s. Not that it in any way looks like an engine failure issue, but I would not have described it as "plenty of space for autorotation" at all.

For clarification, was commenting about the hardware; however I'm sure that the aircrews are just as capable of following orders as previous generations..
