LFT,

No wonder they needed a tanker, they've got no 1500L external tanks!

Much better, RP!

They look a lot better than those big, heavy dirt moving things. :-)

It's Leeming, and that's the Eastern HAS site (originally 23, then XI),missile dump beyond and North York Moors in the background.

Indeed
I recall the first Station Taceval after 23 arrived. XI were fulfilling their deployment role, i.e. we were lying on a beach in Cyprus.

We sent 23 a postcard, addressed to

Loser Squadron
RAF Much-Suffering-In-The-Marsh,
North Yorkshire
England

It arrived on the Ops desk at 23 in 3 days

Fine chap, Phil. Flew with him a bit when there was all sorts of 'joint' stuff going on a year or so earlier.

As I recall, the German F104 drivers used to unpick the bottom line of wording.

Thinking back 34 years, I don't recall exactly when the Team Tornado badge was issued to those on the conversion course at TTTE (Crew solo, end of course, e.t.c), but in my time at Cottesmore I don't remember seeing any badge unpicked.

Commercially, the only version I've ever seen for sale is the version with no wording on the bottom, but I was told at TTTE that this was effectively a copyright issue - whether true or not, I have no idea.

The "No. One in NATO" was famous because "no-one in NATO" wore it!

It was definitely Tornado Tuesday yesterday down by Beachy Head - not the normal place to catch 2 x GR4 at low level, so thank you for the nice surprise at around 1400(L)

Maybe the same pair of GR4's that carried out a flyby at Southend Airport, same day 5th Aug.

There was plenty of dust in the air, and a little may have got in my eye!
