Helicopter ATPL Exam credit gained under old LASORS scheme

Although this may have been mentioned on here before, the exam credit gained under the old LASORS scheme runs out for the issue of an IR(H) on 5 Apr 15. However, I have clarified with CAA that this doesn't mean your ATPL VFR credit expires too. This credit is valid for 7 years from date of valid type rating in your licence. This means that if your last valid rating was 2010 (expiry date of rating - its last valid day) you have your credit until 2017. So a little breathing space. What it also means is that to get your IR(H) you only need 4 exams to bridge from your ATPL(H) VFR credit to ATPL(H) IFR credit. And you get reduced exam requirements for ATPL(A).

So, the old LASORS credit was not effort wasted. Just beware of letting your exam credit expire due to the 7 years since last type rating problem. For fixed wing chums it is the expiry of their IR that matters. Lucky for us.
