As far as I can recall, XT899 and XV408 were painted up to celebrate 19 & 92 Sqn's 75th anniversaries. The overall blue colours were a nod towards the Blue Diamonds of 92 Sqn, when they flew Hunters...

RP,

How I wish I could see a silver 92 Sqn Lightning FMk2A with blue spine and fin once again - a British thing of beauty rather than that American abortion!

1.3, I feel your pain. The Lighting didn't have the special weapons capability required. Of course, one could mention that had the F4 been an abortion, there wouldn't have been 5,000 of them.

If a secret F4 AD wing is forming, count me back in- only been, well, a somewhat long time. I still have the ideal turn keys marked on the back of my pencil box. My learning curve is pretty flat, but I'm willing ( if my wife will let me that is)

1.3, if I might add to CM's observation, the F-4 is still in front line service 56 years after it's maiden flight, and won't be retiring any time soon. The Lightning on the other hand...

p.s. The Lightning is still a magnificent aircraft though!
