It does make a change for the the USA and Uk not to be acting as the sheriff.

Their region, they have loads of kit, let them sort out their "Brothers" for a change.
Please leave the UK and US out of it as much as possible.

I think this is fascinating, although I'm not yet sure whether this is a positive or negative step. Regardless, it should be more newsworthy than a few lines halfway down a webpage.

The official told the BBC that the US had not been consulted about the air strikes and that it was concerned that US weapons may have been used, violating agreements under which they were sold.

Nutloose
Was just about to post along the same lines.
The other paragraph was also an interesting comment.
"Secondly there is the fact that neither the UAE, nor Egypt, told Washington in advance. It is a measure of the declining standing in the region of the Obama administration, which is widely seen as hesitant and vacillating."

UAE and Egypt behind bombing raids against Libyan militias, say US officials | World news | theguardian.com
Better report in the Gurner.
Better report in the Gurner.
The air strikes failed to stop Islamist militias from capturing Tripoli later in the week, announcing a new breakaway regime and forcing Libya's elected government to flee to the eastern city of Tobruk. The strikes' alleged origins suggest a block of Middle Eastern countries led by the UAE are seeking to escalate their opposition to the Islamist movements that have sought to undermine the region's old order since the start of the Arab spring in 2011.
Good on 'em, too bad it didn't have the effect "on the ground" that they seemed to be hoping for.
On another note, the Arab Spring is going along swimmingly.
