Red Arrows unveil three new pilots for the 2015 display season

Three new pilots will join the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, for the 2015 season......

Flight Lieutenant Thomas Bould, Flight Lieutenant Michael Bowden and Flight Lieutenant Emmet Cox will begin training with the Red Arrows later this year, ready to display as part of next season’s nine-strong team.

Flight Lieutenant Bowden, 33, joined the Royal Air Force in 2002 and has completed two operational tours of Afghanistan, flying the Tornado GR4.......

[Flight Lieutenant Bould..... 32] joined the Royal Air Force in 2005, was the Tucano display pilot in 2010 and was selected to fly the Typhoon multi-role combat aircraft. He was posted to 1(F) Squadron and during his frontline tour had several deployments to the Falkland Islands as well as exercises in Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.......

Flight Lieutenant Cox, 35, was educated at Long Bay College in Auckland, New Zealand, before studying at the city’s university. He emigrated to the UK in 2001 and joined the Royal Air Force a year later. Following training, Flight Lieutenant Cox was posted to RAF Lossiemouth to fly the Tornado GR4. As a member of 617 Squadron (The Dambusters), he flew missions over Iraq. In 2010 he was chosen to become a Qualified Flying Instructor and returned to 72(R) Squadron to fly the Tucano........

The new recruits will succeed those pilots who are finishing their three-year tour with the Red Arrows at the end of the 2014 season – Flight Lieutenant Mike Child, Flight Lieutenant James McMillan and Flight Lieutenant Martin Pert.

Which one is Bogeye, the one who looks like he's fifteen or the one who looks seventeen? Well done to all three of you by the way, pop and crisps all round.

Mind you I saw Chris H****s this weekend displaying at Old Warden, he ought to bottle his genes and make a fortune. He must be pushing seventy and he still looks like a young blood. Can still fly a bit too.

You bunch of old gits!

Kids?! They're all in their bloody thirties. They make look young to you but I'm afraid that may just be symptomatic of your own advancing years.

Traditionally most guys get selected for the Reds in their early to mid thirties. It is not they who are getting younger I'm afraid.

Bloody good news really, it at least means the Reds will continue in 2015, can't say as much for the rest of the RAF though. As an "old sweat" its nice to see that fast jet, low level formation flying is still the preserve of the mature youngster, I'm sure despite the foregoing we all wish them well.
