Thumbs down RNoAF F-16 vs poweline july 7th - damaged but RTB

Time to buy a lottery ticket?

F-16 hit the top service lines (the ones not carrying current) of a large span in Grong in the middle part of Norway. Pilot brought the aircraft back to Ørland Air Base.

Damage to right wing and drop tank.

ISTR Stumpy Faulkner having a more dramatic photo of doing that with a Scimitar. Glad this guy too got back safely.

I'm not an airframe eng so not sure if the damage is going to be easy to repair. Would this require a new wing or could it be "patched"?

The other question I have is would this type of accident overstress the wing attachment points by exerting an assymetric torsional load caused by drag on the right wing before the wire parted?

Bad luck to not see/avoid the wire but BZ to the pilot for landing safely.

1. Top wire is an earth wire.
2. Lottery ticket, yep, lucky pilot, these aircraft don't have the best rep against power lines.

The line was marked on the chart

From civ 1:500K, as viewed on AirNAv Pro (Civ 500K made by the same company as the RNoAF LFC charts, using same database) The offending span is supposedly the one marked with elevation 991
