5th July 2009 was the date of 43(F) Sqn’s disbandment at Leuchars. The ceremony was well run and lunch was excellent and, as I remember it, speeches contained optimistic hopes that the number plate would be resurrected for the third Typhoon Squadron to be based there.

On the fifth anniversary of that disbandment, not only is there no 43, but soon there will be no RAF Leuchars either. Can we add “Honest Politician” to the dictionary of oxymorons, or is it included already?

“An honest politician is an oxymoron.”
Mark Twain d.1910

so it's been up in the top 10 since before the RAF existed.

I remember it well - a great event. As was the dinner in Stirling Castle.

2009 was before the General Election and subsequent SDSR. I don't think that anyone then would have predicted that 5 years later we would only have 3 front-line GR4 sqns, be without an MPA, and be in the process of handing Leuchars over to the Army.

"Honest politician?" Maybe some want politicians to shell out with a never-emptying bucket of someone else's money but in fairness you can't really accuse the present lot of being dishonest about the unpleasant reality of cuts.

So I've got a t-shirt or two from 43 with the same cockerel image as the 67th used. Did we steal it from them or vice versa? I've always wondered

F3 crews

Referring to the sweet ass of other gentlemen should not really be encouraged now, should it?!
As for talk of Fighting Cocks that just sounds very unpleasant.
Standing by for return banter. Let me guess:
"Don't bend down when a Jag mate's around..."

As a mere Klingon I realise I was beyond the pale but I spent my formative years on 43 and damn fine years they were too. If you were there in the early F3 years chances are I've fiddled with your helmet. Thanks for the memories!

Re the video shown

Sequestration seems to have really stuffed the USAF. F-15's armed with Biretta 92 pistols......

"Did we steal it from them or vice versa? I've always wondered"

Evidence seems to point to them having a prior claim, see http://www.pprune.org/aviation-histo...on-emblem.html

Sadly, I have to say that I didn't expect 43 to be back in the near term. Let's see what future squadrons bring. I have a very old bottle of excellent malt ready to open the day the Fighting Cocks stand up again. Please come and share with me.
