Flt Lt Ken McCredie

It is with great regret that I post the sad news and details of Flt Lt Ken McCredie’s funeral on Monday 7th July. Ken was a C130K, TriStar and C17 legend with over 35 years in the RAF and he sadly passed away on Wednesday 25th of June aged 53 after a long illness. Ken served with 30 Sqn and LXX Sqn on the C130K with over 3,000 hours, before moving to the TriStar on 216 Sqn, where he flew over 3,500 hours. He moved to 99 Squadron on the C17 in 2000 as one of our initial cadre instructors. Ken amassed a further 4,000 hours on type as a highly respected and popular captain, exchange pilot and instructor. Ken leaves behind his beloved family; his wife Rita, his daughter Julia and his son, Andrew.

Ken’s celebration of life service and burial will be held on Monday 7th July in Swindon and Brinkworth. Anyone wishing to attend is most welcome and requested to contact Flt Lt Andy Hoaen, the 99 Squadron Project Officer, on (07799) 773038. The initial meet is at the 99 Squadron HQ at 0845 hours on Monday the 7th. Rita has asked me to convey that dress is No1 HD with medals for serving members and something colourful for those attending in civilian attire. Monday is to be a happy day. We need to know numbers for Rita ideally by the end of Wednesday, so please do get in contact as soon as you can.

Rita and family have requested no flowers, but donations to the Prospect House Hospice in Wroughton, where Ken was so very well looked after in his final days, would be very much appreciated:

Prospect Hospice

Quisque Tenax,

We miss you, Ken,

Stuart Lindsell

I flew with Ken on 216, an absolute gentleman with an extremely dry sense of humour. It was my pleasure to be part of his crew - RIP

I had the privilege of flying with Ken both in the States and when we brought our first C-17 back to the UK. A true gentleman.

You will be missed, RIP.

Fellow service personnel and friends,

A quick request from 99 Sqn and Ken's family,

Please can all individuals planning to attend Kens celebration of life and funeral pass their details to Andy Hoaen on (07799) 773038, or myself Paul Flusk, on 07900 165214. Please ensure that any colleagues who are planning to attend have touched base with either 99 Sqn Project Officer or myself.

Kind regards,

Paul Flusk
99 Sqn

Ken,

You will be sorely missed by all of us on the front line, as you contributed so much during your meteroric service career spanning 3 front line types. I dont think many can claim to have such a breadth of experience, as an operator and instructor.

We will dearly miss your dry wit, absolutely first rate instruction and your company whilst operating across 2 Group on operations. A true gent, fellow aviator, first rate RAF Officer and colleague.

A glass will be raised Monday afternoon in your memory.

Thoughts to Kens family.

Ken helped me through the Tristar conversion course.
He was a delight to have as an Instructor, always calm, knowledgeable and good fun.
I was really upset to hear of his untimely passing.
Best Wishes to his family.
