56 (F) Squadron, RAF Wattisham -1992

Can any of you former Firebirds out there help me out?

56 Sqn graciously made it possible for me to earn the 2000 hour Phantom patch on 17 Jun 1992 at RAF Wattisham. Unfortunately, I failed to write down the Squadron Commander's last name, WgCdr Barry ?????. I have found the photo of the patch ceremony and it is now proudly hanging on my "I love me" wall. I would like to finally annotate Barry's last name on it for posterity.

The gentleman who arranged the feat was Sqn Ldr Tony (Barnes) "B" Flight Cdr as I recall. "Dead Dog" and Jack Christen (?) were involved as well.

Please PM if you can help

Thanks to all who have, or will respond. Winner of the race was T6NL with the correct name, "Doggett". Might I add, he did it without a photo?

Anyone else remember the day?

Concur, top fighter jock and bloke. As a young sprog, he was pictured in a recruiting ad, while at Valley IIRC, in the days when there were 5 different types of fast jet one could be posted to!

Recruiting Advert

From what I recall, Barry was in an F-4 and the nav was just moving to his cockpit; The strap-line was "Graduate openings, transport and driver provided . . "

Now, if I'd worked harder at school I could probably search for it on the web. However . .
