Spangdahlem this Afternoon-Sun 20 Mar

Any ideas what happened at Spangdahlem this afternoon? Plenty of calls from Spang Tower on 121.5 ordering 'civilian aircraft on finals, do not land here, go around, you do not have permission to land at Spangdahlem Airbase.' The aircraft did land, was told to stay on the runway(which he didn't do, taxied off) and got the controllers very hot under the collar.

Is that SOP to instruct an "intruder" to remain on the runway? It would be an obstacle to military ops.

Yes it is SOP. You don't want the "intruder" to have access to the ramp and all the multi-million $ aircraft until you have established the nature of the threat.

I watched a motor glider land at Gutersloh in 98 and park up thinking he was at Munster Osnabruck. He was talking to Muster tower all the time. I stayed in the VIP suite (only room left) at Spangdahlem one night. Very interesting visitors book in the room signed by high ranking officers. I couldnt resist signing it as a Sgt.
