5 Chinooks going cheap! 2 previous owners,

Key Aero reporting 5 CH-47D's for sale after they pull out .
A good buy for someone. Already in in Afghanistan ! Doubt wee as a country could afford them the now BUT If there is a good price is it not worth the effort? Would be a massive help to the logistic boys n girls over there trying to cover lots with very little .

"February 2: Canadian news agency CTV News says that the country’s National Defence is to sell five CH-147D Chinook helicopters after their mission in Afghanistan is complete later this year.

Six CH-47Ds were purchased from the US Army on December 30, 2008 for urgent use in Afghanistan. Although notification to US Congress was made on April 21, 2008 crew training at Fort Rucker is believed to have begun a month previously. One aircraft was lost on August 5, 2010 from Taliban small-arms fire in the Panjwaii district, west of Kandahar city with the Chinook catching fire and burning out following a hard landing, which resulted in several light injuries to those aboard.

The report says Canada paid C$282 million to buy the helicopters and if no buyers are found they will be packed up and taken back to Canada.

I've already tried to hawk these in the UK to the Chinook PT, apparently they are no good as they are "left hand drive"

They would be no good for the RAF as they will have commonality with the rest of the worlds CH-47D fleets.

It is UK Government policy to have no commonality with anyone elses, therefore rendering the sales potential of any of our ex equipment a none starter, whilst additionally increasing the final bill for the said item, ensuring delays and overruns in both time and costs, and finally producing an item that is slower, less capable, none compatible and more expensive than anyones elses.....

been done before and will be done again........

How are Senior Officers going to get promoted and moved on if we deviate from this method? You haven't thought this through, have you?

Simple. By following a similar method, expending several billions of pounds, but then pulling the masterstroke that catches everybody by surprise -

Don't bring it into service AT ALL, and scrap everything associated with it. Apparently this "saves" another couple of billion, and costs a "mere" 200m. This move actually has even greater effect if you have already pushed through the retirement of the predecessor.

It's like playing Mornington Crescent!!!
