Who dares walks?

SAS furious after special ops planes are scrapped | The Sun |News|Campaigns|Our Boys

I know it's the Sun but its difficult not to think here we go again.

Would they actually be prepared to lose this capability, even if only for a brief period of time?

What a load of rubbish. Do not believe anything you read in the papers. UK MoD has a policy not to comment on SF matters. Do you really think anyone connected with SF would go to the papers with a story such as this? What would be the point.

Sleep safe in your beds tonite people. the Js will take over the role. 47 sqn are already operating the J. Lots of open source references.

I have been retired almost 2 years but when I left there was not too many things a J could not do that a K could.

Someone posted pics of J dropping High altitude parachutists last week on here. The link was the MoD area of the Govt web site.

The J still hasn't got the EW /DAS fitted and is unlikely to for a lot longer than Air command are telling the Special ones.

Perhaps there simple aren't any SF ops planned for the back end of the year.

I never worked the J's. SF buggered my career in a K but, talking to currently operating GE's I would suggest that the J is more than capable of doing everything the Hereford Hooligans require. In my day, and now, it's the crew that get the job done, not the airframe. And bloody good crews they were/are.

SF Ops are "planned" months and months in advance....whew! That is good news...nothing like regularity in those kinds of operations....surprise is a terrible thing ain't it!

SaSless

Yep, didn't you know the Iranian Embassy siege was the EndEx
for the CT team. Pre planned, media alerted as Maggie wanted
"her boys" to be seen by the world .

An insider told The Sun: “The SAS are fuming.
“No one has been prepared to make a decision.
Surely somebody HAS made a decision, hence the article??

Iranian Embassy

500N, My Dad told me a tale. If he belived everyone who claimed to have been on the balcony at the Iranian Embassy it would have collapsed under the weight!!

Lots of pics in the public domain of RAF Js with DIRCM, LIRCM, FIRCM. MAWs, PAWS, SATCOM, SITCOM Even a J with Tanks (or are they tanks) those on the U2 were hollow to mount Antenna.

Do all the Block upgrades that were in the planning since the J entered service not provide some of these capabilities that render the platform suitable for SF so we can retire the Ks after great service. Long past their sell by date.

Should one usually go to the Sun for Defense topics? Seems that more than the SAS are upset about something of major importance.

(Sorry, but there was a link next to the article that really caught my eye).

If there is to be a capability gap, just get the E3D to cover it. I know it can't but it didn't stop the MOD pretending that another platform could do the job of the Nimrod

Seriously though, the J lads and lassies step up to the job in true Albert fashion
