Question Female Aircrew Hair

With so many 'serious' issues on PPRuNe just now I wanted to use the forum to answer a question that's been bouncing between me an a WO for a while .

The regs don't seem clear .. (RAF) ..

If a female in uniform has long hair it has to be in a bun net or pinned.

Aircrew cant use either due to the FOD risk ?

Thus a ponytail dangling down from a bone dome is OK ?

What about when no helmet is being worn ?

Any AP quotes appreciated, could even win me a beer

P.

And are you still allowed to call it a "cockpit"? Perhaps it should also be a "Box Office".....

A woman's hair has to be kept within the helmet as to have a pony tail is deemed a snag issue...

What!! How can hair be more of a snagging hazard then the two leads that come out of the back of the helmet in the same place? I know a couple of girls who put their hair into a pony tail to fly.

Perhaps the more pertinent question is that given women in the Service are allowed long hair, and that doing so cannot be contrary to military effectiveness, why can men not do the same?

If you want to look like a girl then crack on and go the whole hog. If you want to look like a hippy then go and join some other outfit.

If a woman's going flying with a helmet on, the hair's goes into a ponytail, purely because a bun won't fit into the helmet ! When back on the ground and the helmet's removed, said hair returns to a bun, as per normal dress regs.

Cheers guys & gals, BANTER at its BEST. The art is alive and well and living on PPRuNe (and in many other places no doubt).

Have just arrived in to work for night shift, got some real sh***y jobs lined up that just have to be done and heard about Andy Murray on the way here, so needed some cheering up.

This thread's achieved the purpose admirably. Long may it continue, and long live the PPRuNe, gets me through many a long shift.

ALU.
