Tornado crew lost, Tornado A1 loco Trust condolences.
I am so sad to hear this news of the tragic loss of the 2 chaps with their Tornado.
Many of us volunteer with the new Tornado steam loco www.a1steam.com and as you may know our engine is named after the aircraft and crews in recognition of the service in the 1991 Gulf War.
The loco naming ceremony held at York in Feb by HRH The Prince of Wales featured a Tornado fly-past from RAF Leuchars over York railway station.
I was on holiday on Loch Ness on June 3rd and whilst on a boat trip by the castle at around 1pm a Tornado zoomed down the Loch at low level.
a marvellous siight!
My condolences to the families and friends and to everyone at
RAF Leuchars.
I will see our Tornado tomorrow and no doubt all our people will be as sad too to hear the news.
As President of the Treble One Sqn Association, may I on behalf of the entire assn offer condolences to the families and to our friends on the Fighting Cocks.
Dont know the guys but that doesnt matter , they put on the uniform to protect us mear civvies , they will never know the thanks that all decent people have for them .
Like everyone else on here my thoughts are with there familys and friends ,at this hard time .
This is indeed desperately sad news, heartfelt condolencies to all family, the Squadron and the Station.
I never had the privilige of meeting or flying with Kenny, but the tributes posted here bear a massive amount of respect to a young fighter pilot.
Nige I've known for many, many years, and through drinking in bars as far apart as Coningsby to MPA, from Norway to Lithuania, his enthusiasm for life was infectious and he was incredbly proud of the job he did. I will miss his ready smile.
If you have any photo's that may be usefull I suggest you contact RAF Leuchars. I was in the Fort William/Oban area for most of the week and there were lots of GR4's steaming down the Great Glen, probably Lossie's.
Sincere condolences to both families, and to the countless friends.
I was at work on Thursday when a colleague came in and broke the news. The stunned silence, "did they get out?", the NOTAM, the looks which greeted the question "any word?", and the passing of time increasing the degree of certainty that the news, when it came, would not be good. Friday morning saw the ensign at half-mast, and the reality began to set in. Hearing the names of those involved left one numb.
Having had the pleasure of meeting Flt Lt Thompson's family, (including Angus), last year, I hope that both they and the family of Flt Lt Morton find the courage and the strength which I fear would abandon me in similar circumstances.
I don't recall who wrote the following, and forgive me for paraphrasing:
They soared like their hopes
to seek and defend,
both men and machine
as one to the end
I was shocked to hear the news on Thu evening that the RAF had lost a jet and crew, and even more to see the names on Friday. I never met Kenny, but knew and worked with Nige on many occasions, even though I am on the sister fleet. He was one of the RAF's true gents, and everytime we met up, catching up was if we'd only seen each other yesterday. His work at Waddington showed his huge intellect and talent that I'm sure he took back to the F3.
My deepest condolences and thoughts are with the families.
Raising a glass to your memories tonight.
RIP.
I wish to pass on my most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, squadron, colleagues and to the air force at the sudden devastating loss of these two brave airmen.
I know all too well there are no words that can ease the pain and confusion you are left with, but i hold you in my thoughts and prayers.
For those wishing to make advance plans to travel to Nige's funeral, I have been asked to say that it's likely that it will be held at LUK this Fri the 10th of July. Details will follow. I believe that Kenny's will be next week, to be confirmed.
