Military AircrewA forum for the professionals who fly the non-civilian hardware, and the backroom boys and girls without whom nothing would leave the ground. Army, Navy and Airforces of the World, all equally welcome here.
I have some connections with The Fighting Cocks and had been following this story for most of the day. As time drew on I think most of us suspected that the lack of positive news could only mean one thing, but we still hoped.
Very sad news and just makes me think of Aug 87 when I was at WTM when E M and J O of 74 Sqn didn't make it home when on a LL ACT trip in Wales...... I still have happy memories of a day skiing with EM on a glacier, (in flying suit as we'd nothing else with us), at c. 12,000 ft above Cervinia whilst on an exchange to Italy with the F104's then based at Cameri.
My thoughts go to those left behind and all at Leuchars and esp to 43.
Was the wx a factor? There were no accident data recorders on the F4 but hopefully the F3 has so that the cause can be quickly determined......
The Scottish Highlands have been pounded by thunderstorms today. However, lets wait for the inquiry. As you say, the data recorder will be invaluable; lets hope it can help to stop the loss of good brave crews in future.
Just wanted to add my sincere condolences with thoughts and prayers for the famillies and friends of those lost today.
Though LHR based,I hale from Arrochar in the West Highlands a few moons ago.
