Military AircrewA forum for the professionals who fly the non-civilian hardware, and the backroom boys and girls without whom nothing would leave the ground. Army, Navy and Airforces of the World, all equally welcome here.
I loved my time on 43 and Nige and Kenny were very much part of that.
I used to love winding Nige up in the office - so easy to get him passionately speaking about anything to do with flying and especially EW on the F3 (Nige - wherever you are - its not normal to use EW for humour!)
As for Kenny, as a student he was a gent, as a Sqn buddy he was a gent and as 1 of the Estonia 4 he was a legend! Sat in the back of the UK diplomatic car with the Union Flag flying as proud as we felt on the bonnet, we were driven through the pedestrian streets of Tallinn with all the tourists looking in to catch a glimpse of someone famous / important only to see us 2 sat there giggling like 2 school kids - brilliant memories.
You will both be sorely missed, but rightly celebrated in the coming weeks. I for one, with tears in my eyes, will be laughing out loud with stories of great times.
Godspeed Kenny, what a sad day. I'm sure everyone at Leuchars will give you a proper send off as they did for Nige on Friday.
For those who knew them but haven't been able to make the journey, you may like to know that there are books for each of the guys to record them as the characters they were and celebrate their lives. I bet if you have stories about either of them for the families left behind to read, OC 43 would like to include them. There is also a book of condolence email and letters should you feel it appropriate.
It has been an emotional week for all concerned. These two professional aviators will be sorely missed by family and friends.
On the Sqn as mentioned, there is a book of condolences. However for those who wish too (because they cannot access the one on the Sqn) can I suggest that they look at:
Many thanks for the link in your post. Thought i was over the very sad event...proved me wrong again...I cried whilst reading the fantastic memories others have added on the site.
Didn't know of it till you posted. I recommend all that knew them to pay a visit and add comments and photos as appropriate.
Last request, could someone who is in touch with them point Romana, Rohan and of course kenny's family, in that direction if they do not already know about it.
AYTCH,
I am glad that you found it useful. Hopefully more guys will follow suit.
Romana had asked for the info on PPRuNe, which she found of comfort. The LastingTribute web site will hopefully bring out all those brilliant memories of both these guys
Thanks

Distant Voice, Yes it is quite normal, for them, an everyday activity near the edge for vital training purposes on our behalf.
I drove past the crash site on the way back from Oban last Sunday and it was a very poignant moment. RAF Rescue Command Post and teams were still on the road, and on the hillside in the area quite high up the hill on the North side of Glen Kinglas.
I know from sad experience that their families will be inundated with well wishes and condolences, and the tight knit Squadron family community and friends around them will give them the comfort they will need at this desperate, tragic time for them.
