Or look at the 'RAF Scampton closing before it opens?' thread, where a link to the same site was posted at 1554.

Nothing to do with old, cold married quarters then?

I find this government amazing

Only last year - their leader - B Liar, having just sacked the Lord Chancellor and 1000 years of history, said publicly and openly

"I have no nostalgia for by-gone eras"

Thankfully, some of his lapdogs have !

What does being "listed" mean?

Does it mean that you can't knock it down or is it just on a list somewhere? Does it mean that these places are safe from development?....

Edited...Apologies, I found it...

Grade I - these buildings are considered to be of exceptional interest

Grade II* - these are particularly important buildings of more than special interest

Grade II - these are buildings of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve them.

Essentially, you need "listed planning consent" in order to knock it down.

Bit hypocritical seeing as we're selling Uxbridge and the bunker to make room for another housing estate isn't it?

The Officers' Mess at West Drayton was listed as well ....

listed at the 'top of the $hittie$t buildings in the world' list.

Mind you I had some excellent times there ...especially the livers-in Christmas Party, can't remember the year but I'm sure its events are well know amongst air traffickers.

Thumbs down

And there endeth the thread!! TVM Rej! The thought of Air Traffic types actually enjoying themselves and allowing a bit of individual character to show is enough to close most places!! Surely this is a sign of a morale outbreak!

What famous (listed) RAF Station with a very famous dog connection, now bans one from brining ones hound on to the station?

Are they allowed to ban dogs on the station? Isn't it part of the deal that pets are allowed?

Not even it looks like, if ones hound has a very politically incorrect name!

Are you referring to the gentlemen who 'bombed' the flashing blue lights from the very top of the Mess with the empty wine bottles? I thought that they were FCs ... but that was many many moons ago!

Famous station banning dogs - must be Scampton ! Guy Gibson would have a word or two to say on the subject if he were still with us! Are the plod's dogs banned as well?
