Spiralling costs saw the RN downgrade its carrier requirement to a Tomcat on a barge. Defence Minister can be seen looking in cockpit in the vain hope that the deal included a pilot.

"Listen son, I'm only doing my job, OK? You can't park here and that's that. Any more lip from you and I'll give you a ticket for moving the cones as well. Her majesty's property doncha know. Understood?".

Listen son, there's no need to worry.

This little boat will do 160 knots - just sit there and see.

Now start up and have faith.

"I know health and safety set out requirements to have cones around aircraft to prevent vehicles running into them, but the only thing that might collide with this is a duck!"

"Sigh, we're did it all go wrong?". "oh, that's easy to answer, successive British Government cuts and alterations to the original planned roles, along with an over ambitious MOD budget meant that by the time we were ready to cut metal, most of the cash had gone on meetings and amendments resulting in the HMS Queen Elisabeth you see today."

A little-known part of the Reagan/North program for propping up tin-pot fascist dictatorships was the "carrier fleet" secretly supplied to Canvey Island Borough Council

Over heard in a large building near a river in the London Metropolitan area recently.....

"Yes Minister I know....I know! President Reagan had fifteen Carrier Task Groups and whenever someone got a bit bothersome the Navy and the F-14's showed up.....the concept is the same except for the slight reduction in funding caused by the American Politicians not being able to agree on a real budget. Yes Minister...i know we are similarly affected but you have to admit a Harrier on an articulated Lorry does give us much more flexibility!"
