EK days off FCI
Am I reading this correctly ......
Wherever possible days off are taken at home base..... 'Wherever possible' being the crux?
We used to get a minimum of 8 days off in 28 averaged over 3 months and now it is 7 .... ??? (Looked in old OMA and it was 7... I thought it was 8....Old age creeping up...)
Cabin crew get 8 days off in 28, and we get 7....????

They're not going to guarantee your few days off each month to be at home? Jeez, things are imploding at an exponential rate.
Having left and looking back, for a short while I wondered if maybe I was perceiving things to be worse than they really were. But now I actually think they could maybe been much worse than I had possibly realised. For me personally, that FCI would confirm to me that I had lost any last threads of freedom and I'd be severely depressed about the prospect of days off not seeing my family. What would be the point of existing that way, irrespective of the money in the bank every month?
EDIT: Maybe I'm only looking at it from a family-man point of view - I suppose it's not an issue for twenty-something single FO's... but you can't crew an airline only with that demographic.

The FCI is an a$$ covering measure so that 'postponed' dedicated freighter pilots could not report that they were only getting 5 days off at home base. There are very few pairings on the B777 pax fleet that have days off down route. Now they have the FCI to back it up.

And we try to plan our life in the few days we have off. If I go sick, I might still have things planned on my planned days off.
This rule might be there for a long time, but I think its a bs one. One of the many.

Get it together natops. Days off are just that, days off. If you need to do something you use sick days.

I know someone who was removed from a ULR through no fault of their own and they took his days off either side too! Why? Because the two days prior and after are associated with the ULR duty. Total bullsh1t in my opinion. Some crap excuse that someone else needed those days off if they're to fly the duty. Really?!

It can work in your favor though. If you have a ULR prior to your leave insist they change the 2 leave days after the flight to OFF days and add them on the end. Rostering tries this little trick quite often and, when confronted, will change it.

troff- then you have to argue with them about it. If you call in sick those 2 days become AD's. if that is the case then it should work similarly in every case. They cannot have it both ways.
