Dubai base for China Southern
Anyone with info on the advert doing the rounds from China Southern?
Dubai based 330 skippers according to the flyer. They've certainly done their research if true.

Can't see many taking that offer personally. If you were one of the younger guys, you'd wouldn't want part time. So, you end up taking a package that's slightly better in remuneration terms but only if you don't have kids. With 2 or 3 kids, the EK package works out better. Remember, they're only promising BETWEEN 8-10 days off per month. What's the advantage?
So, the only carrot here is the month on, month off. That's likely to appeal to the older and more senior guys who want to step more gently into retirement. However, it would mean a substantial pay cut going to China Southern part time. Many guys around this age have older kids in 6th form or at Uni. Factor in no F class travel and it's not such a big carrot after all.
From a health perspective, maybe a part time contract would work, but I just can't see many people leaving EK and staying in Dubai to work for a Chinese carrier.

I love reading the 'never work in China' comments- I tend to think it will keep the d*ckheads away and maybe even help the pay go even higher!

Have not worked in China, close friends have , some hate it some tolerate it, no one say it's great. Money is good , that's the only good. If I could I would go, for the money . Yes RSP is the only way to go but bases change overnight. Sometimes it's the de il you know.
Best to those that venture.
BTW , EK has had some pilots try to rejoin again! Playing right into their ego /mantra that they think they are the best.

Actually yes, and my advice is extremely sound.
Every story has a tale and yes, lots of happy chaps. Typically they're on an RSP with a golden parachute while on LWOP. Who can blame them? Also those who believe their continued 'health' is assured or those that have plenty of options back in their domicile, justifying the risk of employment in China.
Typical expat behaviour is to gloss up a contract to a) justify their own decision and b) entice more colleagues to join to enhance their own experience. Not criticising it, just normal human behaviour, but it creates a false sense of security for those looking in.
Ask those on LWOP to let go of the bungee cord, not a chance. Just wish I'd had their options.
Believe what you want, but on very recent personal experience and knowledge of current Chinese contractors that are NOT happy, I wouldn't be leaving anywhere for China.
