Excellent article in last weekends'FT - "British Expats - Why Your Financial Advisor might be a Bandit" (or a very similar title). Basically confirms everything we always thought about financial advisors based overseas. I hope this link to the article will work -

Great article, pity that it is hard to access, but it makes two very important points:
- It is important to get financial advice on a fee-basis from someone regulated in your home jurisdiction; and
- Most of the so-called "advisers" in the Middle East, are not qualified to give advice in the UK, and sell products that would be banned in the UK.
Lots of them have careers known as the FILTHIED. Failed in London, tried Hong Kong, Insolvent, eventually Dubai.
