EK Accommodation Department
Not sure if anyone else is having the same problems, but have been waiting over 1 year for a move to a villa. Despite the fact that numerous villas are available and apartment demand is high, we are still waiting to move.
Is there anyone within or outside of this department that can solve the problems? Anyone working on that floor as the mental age of a child and couldn't make an informed, calculated and straight forward decision if their life depended on it

short flights long nights
I left in March. A few weeks ago I got an email from the Accomodation Department asking me when they could come an inspect my villa.
You are not seriously expexpting an answer from these people.
And I hope you read all the threads on here before you joined.

Write to JA and explain the situation. Good luck.

For me the way how it worked out was to show up personally. TangoUniform described it quite well. Be nice and polite, in your Emails. But if needed sit on their desk for 24 hours.

If you want ANYTHING from ANY department in EK, send a soft and polite email. If this doesn't work go see them and not the way I have seen some guys go in (Chest puffed up and/or shouting).
Keep your cool and ask how you can help the process. Ask questions like "I'm not aware of the correct procedure, but is there any more information I can get for you?"
I know it sounds like a load of sucking up, but do you want your villa? Means to an end and I happily walk out with all my request addressed.
This also works at anything government run office. I always respect the fact that they may not acknowledge me at first, but I always politely wait until someone addresses me. I don't take offence, it is the way things go and I accept that.
Shisha2015, Request TECOM if you want a nice place to be with a balcony. Once again, I was super polite on my joining info and I got exactly what I requested.

Touch n' oops…
Genuinely saying this:
I'd bet a months pay that…. The **ONLY** reason you got what you wanted was due to your immaculate timing, and the simple availability of the unit you wanted (and maybe a letter to JA??)... and absolutely NOTHING ELSE!! It was nothing to do with the kindness of their heart (I don't even think that department has a heart). That department is the worst one we have at EK. I would rank them even below the Staff Travel department for having things accomplished to your satisfaction.
Why such sour grapes you ask? Because my group of new joiners were told we'd be in temp accommodations for 6 weeks before moving into our permanent ones. Fourteen MONTHS (yes 14!!) later, we all got the email to start the moving process. After about 4 visits to them with tons of sugar to my conversation… and everything else you mentioned, they said, "No". I affectionately call them "The Dept of No".
It's all about timing and availability… and nothing else (In my experience & my humbled opinion)

I have personally never had any issues with accom department (I'm not saying there isn't problems just they haven't happened to me).
I recently moved out of company acommodation and had the approval for the allowance within 2 working days for a move that was 6 weeks later even though the minimum notice is supposed to be 3 months.
As has been said it all depends on how desperate they are for the unit you're currently in which in my case was a 3BR on Shk Zayed Road.
I also agree with what Touch'n'oops is saying. Be polite and and cool. It may be your entitlement but like everywhere in this company they are small kings of their department so you have to play by their rules.

In my personal experience the only thing the accommodation department aren't, is 'accommodating'.
The lady I dealt with couldn't have been ruder or more condescending if she tried. Unfortunately with certain cultures it's only when you resort to shouting that anything gets done, which goes against my way of doing things, but, what to do.
