Thumbs up Meydan Heights impressions

It's been a few months now and finally able to put down a few reflections on the experience....

The units are just about everything one could ask for in free accommodation provided by our new employer. Brand new with four batherooms plus extra toilet plus a room for the servant to live in outside too should we choose to hire one.

Upsaitrs the bedrooms are very nice although the bathroom does eat into the floorspace. Not to worry. BR2 and 4 ensuites were a little cozy but removing the door to the bathroom has helped make them practical. Not sure where to store the doors so they were binned and will have to get new ones when I leave but that won't be for many years so no problem. The missus ever the innovator is using one of those bathrooms as a storeroom.

Built in closets everywhere. Not sure how they managed to get them up as high as the ceiling. Shorties like me need a step ladder in the room to get things in and out. Might have to get a second one as the missus keeps moving it to other rooms.

Weird though, closets so high up but the bathroom counters are a tad on the low side but I am too, so not too bothered. My neighbour is almost 6ft and says he gets back ache bending down like a giraffe to use the sink. Some will complain about anything!

Apparently the pipes are a bit tight and they kindly asked us not to flush loo paper down the toilets - very continental!! Just a matter of adjustment I suppose. Doesnt bother us too much. The missus got the job of emptying the bins next to the toilets....

The windows are double glazed so its incredibly quiet inside from outdoor noise. The neighbours are party types though by the sound of it and lots of fun although they seem to argue a bit. We've not heard any wet slaps so they do seem to stop short of hitting each other! And it always seems to end lovingly, if you know what I mean!! Ths missue just ignores it..
Their baby doesn't cry for too long before being seen to. One must be neighbourly I suppose. We were a bit worried about all the hammering he was doing but turns out that wasn't even him - coming from one or two down the row beyond him. Just goes to show...

Indepenedent AC in each room - marvellous! It doesn't seem to get down below about 25C on a scorcher though, not sure what that's about but I was told this is the limit. The last 6 weeks have been a tad warm at night - no duvet helps.

The occasional fuse trips off however the staff are helpful and seem to turn up quickly now that they know me.

oodles of hot water on tap but an interesting brown colour at times. They said to just let the taps run for a while. The staff said this is very common around town so I suppose everyone does this. My neighbour has the same thing and leaves the taps running each morning. He's using bottle water to cook with but I let it run for 5min until it's clear, it won't hurt!! I heard a couple of families have moved out over the brown water, bit of an over-reaction if you ask me.

The upstiars water heater was leaking into the ceiling at one point but luckily the missus was home and the lads were quickly around to fix it up, these things happen!

Bit of a leak through the windows when it rained from a thunderstorm a few weeks back but the lads were around to ifx it up pretty quickly. Good work fellas!

The outside enclosures - not so big that you need to worry about gardens and things. The neighbours over the back have put in a pair of nice sunbeds which his missus seems to spend a lot of time on. It's okay for some!!

The ones over the back, next to them have put in an amazing mini water pond with goldfish etc plus a mini chaise longue and nice mini wooden japanese style mini garden - a bit cozy in there and I notice his maid only waters it when they're home.... tuttut...

The ones over the back next to them on the other side have left the sand as sand and seem to enjoy the desert style as they never close their sliding doors even in this heat!! You don't see them outside much. Each to their own I suppose. I'm sure they'll get into the spirit of it soon, looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

The neighbours next to us have put in a paved deck area with an umbrella so it's not as easy to see into their entire enclosure but they seem happy with their little set up and spend a lot of time out their. Very neighbourly and usually invite us over whenever they see us looking.

The neighbour beside us on the other side has gone for the storage option in the yard. He's making it work for him! Tons of stuff outside, you couldn't move out there! Looks a tad untidy but doesn't bother us, I guess he'll get around to sorting it out eventually.

Some of the neighbours down the row beyond them have really got stuck into the improvements, you can see tiles, pagolas, bbqs, shade sails, sunbeds, couches - all sorts of things. One lad about three down the row has something that looks like it might be a brewing set up, must ask him about that next time I see him outside.

One lad has fully enclosed the yard - not sure why as you cannot see a thing in/out from any direction. Could be his missus calling the shots!! The missus reckons I only look to check out the ladies but I am genuinely impressed with the efforts some folk have put into their enclosures.

Speaking of which the missus got herself stuck out there in the enclosure when I was away at work last week, says the door handle locked her out. not sure how she managed that but they told me you could hear the squealing up and down the street She said they came and fixed the handle although it seemed fine to me. These things happen.

This week they kindly came and fixed the stove which was dripping water all over the place. We laughed it off, these things happen. Excellent kitchen. A few of the cupboards are jamming but these things happen. Big thanks to the lads who came and fixed the drain which was blocked with cement and bits of wood. That's odd.

All settled in and had some guests over for a feed last week. A bit of a moan from the guests about having to park on the other side of the compound and walk in this heat...hehehe. The toilet next to the dinner table was a bit awkward - hadn't thought of that. Not to worry, just moved the dining area to the other end, now got the kids area next to the toilet/front door/kitchen. No problem. Speaking of which that toilet was a little wiffy but they kindly came and fixed that for us once we figured out where the pong was coming from. They bogged up the drain with silicon - simple fix, good work lads. Amazing how these lads are on hand to come and fix things at the drop of a hat, try finding that back home!

They've opened the pool now. Sort sort of hiccup with the generator which powers the entire place they said... not enough cables or something but it's all up to speed now. Apparently there was a leak through cracked tiles but the lads were onto that! They reckon they're getting a life guard soon - outstanding! The missus reckons she's hoping for a young Spanish or French lad to perve at but I reckon it'll be some young yank lass on gap year, just like bay watch hehe...

They're putting in a 3 lane highway on the other side of the fence, hope they put in some street lighting too. Should make it easier and more accessible for all.

One or two minor glitches but all in all we're chuffed to be here.

WTF?

A wind-up - right?

"Amazing how these lads are on hand to come and fix things at the drop of a hat, try finding that back home!"

Speechless.

Beauty post. Interesting but also a little frightening. Another EK social experiment.
Best of luck with the lads and may your water forever be clear!

Great post!

Apart from the 'villas' and location it seems to have potential. I look forward to seeing how the community center functions when there are a thousand families in residence. Anytime I see a painted bunch of houses it reminds me of the projects. Love the comment under the gallery...not bad! Nah but not exactly dope either.

Best of luck to all that end up there.
