Turkish airlines ask to pay type rating to new joiners
Hello Guys
Don't trust THY, they are looking for pilots in all the aircraft fleets , but at the end of the selection process you will be asked to pay for the type rating, the price is 18000/23000 narrow body and 28000/33000 wide body, My question is: if they need a lot of pilots why they are asking to pay a type rating? And also without any guarantees, you will receive a letter of intentions saying that THY will hire you after completing the type rating, if you have any experience please posted.

Actually , everybody want to join this companies for stabily, job secure and career development, they are offering just a type rating!!! At which conditions? Nothing!!! And they are still adverticing the jobs via SIGMA or PARC aviation without even say that you have to pay the typa rating. I think also, if they don't want to cover this costs they can ask to go and get a type, in this way they want your money, you have to do where they ask you to do according with their prices. That's completely insane for me

And do not forgot Pegasus airlines in Turkey it is all scam 32.000 euro for type and 100 hours jumpseat,after that they will kick you out as a gun shot.For your information there are 800 hunderd unemployed Turkish Pilots,do not ask me why

What can they do if you say no? If you signed up and then you are surprised by this, then you have problems.

What is really strange for me is that they want pilots, they fail a lot of people at the assestment days , but than of you want to join you have to pay, with a guarantee of a "letter of intentions" , that's not a fair behavior from the national carrier of turkey. They needs you but you have to pay and without job guarantee, also no command upgrade for FOs and work permit of 1 year.

The Final Rule
Directed by Congress, the Airline Safety and FAA Extension Act of 2010 called for increased minimum requirements for airline first officers. The new rule mandates that airline first officers hold an air transport pilot (ATP) certificate or the new “restricted ATP.”
An ATP certificate requires, among many other qualifications, that the pilot be at least 23 years old and have logged at least 1,500 hours of flight time.
The “restricted ATP” requires pilots to be at least 21 years old with
750 flight hours if they are military-trained and qualified,
1,000 flight hours if trained in a four-year college or university-accredited aviation training program leading to a bachelor’s degree, or
1,250 flight hours if trained in a two-year college aviation program leading to an associate’s degree.
Pilots who obtain their certificates and ratings via non-structured general aviation flight training can qualify for the restricted ATP at age 21 with 1,500 hours of flight time.
The new rule also requires, per ALPA’s recommendation, that first officers be “type rated” in the aircraft they fly in airline service—i.e., receive special training and testing on operation of that specific aircraft type.

Friend of mine refused the offer for a 33000 out of his pocket B777 type rating without other warranties than a letter of intent for a potential salary of 4200 euro minus living in Istanbul expenses estimated in 1800 euro per month . Which makes is unemployment benefit of 2500 euro home a fantastic deal till it lasts..
