Just curious, because I'm sure it would be of some value to other people here who are also in the pool, but how do you know you are in the top 10? If there is some kind of ranking system that you know about it might be helpful to share it with everyone else, so they too can work out where they stand and when a call might be coming.
the guys who where screened the week before us got the job offer so that's why I think I'm one of the first in the pool, therefore the 'top 10'. I'm not sure there is a ranking. And considering the last email from the desert, some of us will soon get the good news.
I have had a few PMs asking what command time new joiners should be expecting. Going by the latest information on fleet size by 2025 (280), which is over 12 months old, I don't think a command will be offered prior to 2025 for the dude/dudette joining today. Timbo has said he envisages a fleet of 400ish after we move to the new airport. That is said to happen after 2025. We have 180 aeroplanes in the fleet now. So he/she will need another 180 aeroplanes to upgrade. The DECs hired now would take up the flex for guys leaving/retiring for a bit. Best case if we receive one aeroplane a month, until upgrade time it would take 180 months. The majority of aircraft on order now are fleet replacement. We were told the Boeing fleet would peak at 160 B777. We have 108 B777 now.
Why should pilot leave the best airline in the world?? Archer.. you and your perspective colleagues are missing the point here. If we let aviation fall in the hands of middle eastern carrier that keep stealing away passengers from major Western carrier just by taking advantage of the sociopolitics of their middle age style sociopolitical situation ( no unions, no worker rights, no human rights) there will be no aviation to return to in the West. This why EK is more and more a one way ticket and you upgrade will take 10 years at least... Keep discovering.. hello tomorrow.
Was going to comment on the shite standard of product on other airlines as additional reasons for pax changing carriers, but realised that is wasting my time feeding the troll.... 12yr Don? Geez the guys getting calls now must be glad they joined when they did...kids would be in high school by the time you got the 4th stripe if you had 'em now... :/
Sorry Minwas, nothing new after the last email that was sent to the poolies.
Archer, if 800 pilots leave (that's 25% of the list) the new dude would get a seat on the last delivery. This does not take into account any more DECs. If HR are to be believed, rates of people leaving has slowed a lot in the last few years. We even have people rejoining as DECs.
This is all calculated guess. But best you plan on the worse case, and be pleased if things improve, rather than be disappointed when things don't happen, as happens often here.
We were told the cap on the fleet number was due to capacity at DXB.
The Don.
Wings, in March 2007 the EK pax fleet was 91 aircraft. It has doubled now. Hence command were quicker. I have received a PM stating that the 280 aircraft is for 2020 in stead of 2025 as I stated above. The new joiner now would need a fleet size of 340 to 360 to get a command if history for command time was to repeat.

No please go ahead..comment on the shite service of other airlines? Has Air France a shitty service? Mhhh don't think so. What about Turkish Airlines Best European Airline for two years in a row? So tell me where is the excellent service eon board EK ? You mean that old styled shitty gold plated Indian wanting to be British style ? EK is a low cost carrier and the only reason it gets passengers is price. Is the cheaper on almost all routes. And why is that? Because they don't pay taxes, they don't have to deal with union and they don't have any social responsibility. The money goes into the pocket of the dictator that buys his citizens consensus in cash. National socialism Arab style. A little too easy paying a Somali ramp agent 600 dollars and giving him a bed in some camp in the desert while the same job in Europe pays at least three times plus tax and pension for a total of 6 to 7 times more . So shall we lower the standard in Europe to compete and go back to slavery to be on par ? Well someone is trying. Going to work for them will effect somehow your and your sons future ..that is what you really don't understand. Let's stop the Arab conquest of World's aviation.
Don, is your gut feeling that the latest update on start dates (777 courses starting in Jan '13) represents a realistic situation at the moment? Not feeding the troll.

Thanks for crunching the numbers, Don...I have to say I didn't expect to get a command in less than 5 or 6 years but I'll be interested to see how long it actually takes!
Just out of interest, do you have any idea of the average crews/aeroplane ratio? I'm guessing it's around 10:1 but I understand it'll vary between fleets! It gives a good idea of how far off you are when you start...still any major carrier will have a long waiting list, it's what 15 years in BA etc, my airline it's around 10 or 12 and that's for a 320 command...
You'll be a master slave in 14 years but don't worry...only one out 200 pilots resists that long in Camelhot so you will be most probably gone by then.
If we know mid feb are the next in the list and these are non-airbus pilots (because latest airbuses were fished up even from late march)...how many pilots remain in the pool per month and what kind of type rated do they hold? Try to make an unofficial list...I am Boeing/Mid March...Next?
Last time I checked it was costing me $500 more to fly full fare EK than the others on that route, cheapest yeah tell that to the passengers, they sure as heck expect their money's worth since they pay more on average.... when was the last time you got a hot meal on a flight.,.. lets not even mention those mythical things called towels.
Back to the topic, people come to ME because they want to, no one is forced onto a boat or plane. Yes some of the working conditions sucks but it's improving all the time. Even govt is taking steps to improve regulations etc. But you don't live in Dubai do you so how would you know..? I was worried about my future job before I joined EK since my own country is doing a pretty good job of messing things up themselves..,
Like someone else said, 99% of us here made an informed choice to move based on pros AND cons, not just the fluffy stuff coming from HR...
