We're not worthy... as I'm sure we will be told.

Would I be right in hazarding a guess that that would be "QF 146 captain"?

Welcome

Never mind the noises of the stick actuators further up. Have an open mind, a twisted sense of humour and you ll be all right. If neither Bush (or successors) nor Ahmedinedjad (or successors) nuke the place, I ll stay for live. Just too many stories to tell my grandchildren. And no ... that wasn't cynical. Just the way it is.

I thought QF psyc tested their Pilot's better than that?

A few QF F/O's joined CX as direct entry F/O's on the Oz base, I think they all left soon after finishing training realising CX was worse with the time to command 12 to 15 years. Big mistake, a little homework beforehand could have fixed that.

Any QF Pilot leaving to go to Greener pastures is "dreaming" and should be smacked around the head for having such stupid thoughts.

Devil

If you are single you will enjoy it immensley. If you are dragging a wife and kids from Australia to live in the UAE you are a mean evil bastard. And you will have a pay cut , dont forget.

What is the general view of Ozzies (Pilots) in the UAE, If there is a particular view? Have they a reputation?
I encourage anyone that is not an Australian to comment, now be honest, a general view not an attack!

By the way, does anyone think the person who started this thread has wound you up?
I haven’t see one this good in a while!

One or two of them who come immediately to mind might be classed as 'superstar pond life'.

But on the other hand, there are the paragons of all things virtuous (like me).

I think QFCaptain did not intend to come across negatively. Agreed.... his post might seem a bit self-glorifying, but come on. It's a sentence or two.
I read his past posts and there is nothing to indicate a bad attitude at all, in fact some of his posts were quite good. I may be wrong but I sensed a certain amount of bitterness towards aviation in Oz, something which I think a lot of us can relate to in our own ways.

Here is my slant on the Ozzies in general. Feel free to slag away at me. I LIKE THEM ! I enjoy my time with them and find them competent pilots.

Having said that, the 2 morons........ one who has departed to the dark side, haha.......... gave Ozzies a bad name at EK. I am sure there are more, but I have not run across them.

The 2 aforementioned dudes, were front-runners in the 'socially inept games'. I mean really, talk about pedantic (which is forgivable if based on knowledge and ability), useless trainers......... and pilots too I might add. I just think the small minority of these Ozzie guys, gave the rest a bad reputation. The reason for this, is that they were THAT BAD when it came to training or general flying for that matter. I think the Ozzies have an undeserved bad reputation at this airline, but I completely understand how this has transpired.

I did have a pairing with a guy who simply could not stop saying MATE at the end of every sentence. This fact made for some hilarious times for us, because I could not help mentioning it to him after his 175th MATE ! We had a bet.......... I immediately owed him 12 beer and for each time he said MATE, I got a beer. I think I was up by 64 by the end of it all, in spite of his best efforts, lol.

One of the biggest surprises for me since coming to DXB, is how annoying I find the loud and obnoxious Ozzie WOMEN ! This is even more surprising in that I like them in general, find them physically attractive and we have similar political and social POV's.

But goodness me, tone it done a bit! I love confident and outspoken women in general but being annoyingly loud and abrasive is not something I find attractive in a women............. I don't care how scrumptious they are.

(Still feeling the affects of the fireworks/chemical explosion now !! You gotta love this place, haha.)

Mensaboy... well written but you still come across as racist, prejudiced and sexist by even attempting to answer that question.

Qfcaptain... it is a bit difficult to comment on your post as you have not supplied any information that we can work with. Mainline domestic. international, or QF link?
Despite all the things over here that will annoy the crap out of you eventually, you will find the flying to be more demanding but also a lot more interesting and rewarding than what you have been getting. Financially, it is debatable.
If you like flying big jets to a never ending stream of new destinations all over the planet, you have made a good decision.
I made the move nine years ago and have never regretted it. Even now that I am reaching the end of my patience with Dubai.
Good luck.
