Guys, some piece of advice:
DO NOT forget to include the -not so unimportant- tax-issue into your D-M process. The special deal for commuters working for a German registered company was abolished early 2007!
To my knowledge Germany is not as attractive as it used to be and I'm pretty sure LH-DHL will not work with offshore contracts.

What 5star says is a good point to bare in mind if the financial considerations are important to you. Working for a German company, REGARDLESS of where you live or commute from (if possible with this deal), you WILL pay German taxes and lots of them and you will not be able to claim any of the social benefits when officially domiciled outside of the country......

Some of the posters on this thread sound like airline management trying to discourage the troops from a mass exodus from the middle east back to Europe. Yes boys and girls there is tax in Europe Bla Bla . BUT , its possibly a way home. Wait and see , look at the T and C,s assess. I know many in the desert that have been waiting for just this opportunity to go hometo Euro. May the best men (and woman) get the jobs . Good luck to you all.

You can try to sum it up, allthough it's difficult. I tried it with the experience of a buddy working in Germany and commuting from France. Again, it is certainly far from beeing scientificly waterproof, but at this very moment the LH Cargo deal is some 8% better than the EK deal. Thus if the AL deal is even 15% less, by June it will equal the EK one with the expected c#*p profit share, s##t increase and f*%$#g inflation.

Could this and the Virgin Oz 777 jobs be one of the reasons transfers to the 777 have been cancelled , again??? or is it because they have really screwed up the manpower calculations.....Either is as believable as the other .

There are any number of people in the sandpit now who are looking for a quality employer in a civilized country and are thinking "damn the taxes, full speed ahead".
I am suprised that no one is mentioning the fact that an EU employer of this ilk will certainly have a defined-benefit retirement plan, the existence of which covers a multitude of tax sins.

Hi there....
I youst want to draw your attention to the fact that GERMAN is not "desired but not mandatory"... How likely do you think is it to get hired if you want to work for a german company but not speaking the language (even if you are 777 rated)??? I think the german lots will get the priority over this... We'll see

Thanks that does help. However boys and girls lets wait and see what the market dictates. The prospect of going home is very appealing. V OZ , LH Cargo ( the new one) , and just wait for the 787 to come on line to see what that does to the Boeing job market. Why would DHL and LH Cargo open a new company for cargo operations that already exist and that they already are working on?
-Only to save money, of course...
Ladies and gentlemen: This looks like the beginning of the "Low cost cargo business model"
I guess their conditions will be moderate and performance based with few fringe benefits. Germany is known as a particulartly buerocratic country and the taxman will make the rules on the financial side of your conditions.
Guys an girls from the desert might not be so keen once they do the figures..its hard to step down and hand it all to the IRS once you enjoy the benefits of a "free" income..
LEJ is not the centre of the universe in Germany, either. Perhaps acceptable for people from Berlin or Dresden, but beyond that the commute will be tideous. And after one winter in LEJ even the optimistic might be ready to throw the towel on trying to live in Leipzig...
If they are holding back with their T&C's its because they want to see what kind of fish will be biting first...
This company will be all about optimizing cost versus income and the human factor in this will play a significant role in the "optimization" process...
Well, this is my 50 pence anyway, I have no inside knowledge other than observing the industry for a significant amount of time.
Hope time will prove me wrong and this will become the "jewel of aircargo" in EU...
