Meares Irlen syndrome

Is this condition likely to affect the issue of a JAR class one medical?

I'm an ATCO & PPL, not an AME.

My son has Meares-Ihrlens, amongst other things, and from my experience with that, I would say "possibly"!

My son was diagnosed aged about 6, and was given glasses with coloured lenses to help. He is now 11 and has been told he no longer requires them, from which I understand that either using coloured lenses has helped his sight correct itself, and/or his sight has corrected as he has grown.

I would suspect that if you (generically) need coloured lenses or coloured overlays in order to read reasonably well, then you wouldn't be able to get a class one because the colours would interfere with your ability to perceive colour on the charts, displays etc. I don't know how the M-I itself would affect your ability to interpret the charts & displays quickly & accurately enough.

I don't know whether I've been any help or muddied the waters for you even more! I'll certainly watch this thread with interest!
