Medical revalidation/renewal

Example; class 1 medical expires on the 20th but assessment not until the 22nd. This is a renewal as opposed to a revalidation... but is there a difference at the assessment itself or is it just terminology? i.e. will I have to pay more?

I have done a search on here but no joy on the specifics.

Thnx.

Smile no extra to pay . . . . . . . ! !

will I have to pay more?
No you won't ! The medical examination (s) are EXACTLY the same (with extras such as ECG or audio, if required), for both renewals and revalidations !

This is PURE UNADULTERATED BUREAUCRACY ! ! Typical CAA and JAA ! !

The dating arrangements work almost identically to the car MoT, ie you can renew in advance of expiry (within 45 days prior) without losing any validity.

A REVALIDATION is if you have your medical during the 45 days prior to the expiry of your last certificate.

A RENEWAL is if you allow the previous certificate to expire . . . . then later have a further medical for another certificate.

Easy, innit ? !

With regards to renewals...

My renewal expires in 2 weeks, now it doesn't look like i'll be able to get a medical done in the next month due to financial constraints - What is the time allowed after a medical lapses to still get a renewal?
I am under the impression that if it lapses + 30 days then you need to get the whole full evaluation done and that would be at Gatwick rather than just at a locally qualified DR...Is there truth in this? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated, it's something I've been unable to find an answer to anywhere.

Thanks,
jason.

Fear not ! The certificate can lapse for up to about four years before you might have to return to Gatwick for another initial ! If it's just a few days or weeks then any local AME can renew it for you.

AMEandPPL spelled it out beautifully in post #2 above.

class 1

No, I think it is upto 5 years. If you go over the 5 years then it is back to Gatwick for the works.

On another note, what is everyone paying for a re-validation these days?

No, I think it is up to 5 years
You may well be right, but I think it would be unwise to push it right to the limit, which is why I suggested four. I think that would be safe !
