All the ugly planes!

OK, so how about the worst looking planes?

I reckon either:

a) Shorts 360 (square fuselage)
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/133055/M/

or

b) Boeing Stratoliner

Engaging Outraged Mode

The F-4. Ugly? How dare you. I challenge you to a duel at dawn with your choice of weapons. Tweezers or nail clippers.

Anyone which one?

The F4U Corsair. Beautiful
Or the F-4 Phantom II. One of the most divine aircraft of all time.

Suggest you go and have a little lie down Nopax. You are clearly not thinking straight at the moment. After that, book yourself in at the nearest optician at the earliest opportunity

In fact, is there such a thing as an ugly plane?

Undoubtedly the Tacit Blue:

http://www.fas.org/irp/mystery/tacitblu.htm

When the test pilot was shown the aircraft in the hangar, he commented that he thought they had forgotten to take it out of the crate!

Junkers 52/3m: corrugated wings!
Cessna 337
Junkers 87 Stuka (not an airliner, but so ugly you'd think it was deliberate psychological warfare like the siren.)
A10A Thunderbolt, also military and looks like death itself.

phtwoer *spitting out feathers* but refusing to accept defeat.

But it's got so much more character than these boring Tornado things. Gawd, you could fall asleep looking at those things.

You'd never do that with a pair of J-79s or Speys at full tilt. Which reminds me of another awesome piece of machinery, the banana jet

Nopax please stop being so rude about the F-4 Phantom I happen to agree with cargosales on this subject. the Phantom is quite simple gorgeous. A far superior aircraft than the Tornado in almost every aspect.

On the subject of the Tornado, I'm afraid that "The Mighty Fin" gets my vote as the ugliest plane.

Am I alone in thinking the much 'admired' Lockheed Constellation is one heck of an ugly creature?

Totally unfair! The Shed and the Stratocruiser both reflect the job they were built for. The Shed is square because most freight is square. Is that not integrity? The Strat was pressurised when Brits were slumming it in Avro Yorks, Vikings, and the like. Handsome is as handsome does.

Phantom? Big, ugly, loud, and deadly. I once saw four take off together at Bentwaters, and they looked and sounded as effective as they were. Still in service, aren't they?

The others aren't worth comment, except that as a Hayes boy, I can confirm that some pretty ugly Faireys have made it out of Hayes.

WILGA - aaarrrrgh

Yup, Vege, that is one UGLY aeroplane (can I use that phrase?)

Personally, the Wilga has to be one of the ugliest aeroplanes ever built. Gotta hate those corrugated washing boards on the side.

Cool

Ouch! Yow! (Putting out flames)

Now I did say that I love the old F-4; Alconbury's flightpath used to go straight over my house (and hopefully will again in the future )

You just couldn't (IMHO) call her beautiful....

Distinctive - Yes
Pugnacious - Yes!
Deadly - YES!
Threatening - YES!!!

in fact, everything a fighter jet should be (especially with those big Spey intakes)

She just ain't purty....but should she be? I wouldn't want them to look any different.

Gliders are beautiful; look at them long, graceful wings. Fighters should look like fighters; aggressive and dangerous. Think rattlesnakes rather than kittens...............
