Another good reason to get rid of all inclusive (in addition to the false sickness claims)

There would be a lot less crowding in tourist spots if the locals, not working the trade, would have the decency to take their own holidays elsewhere at the same time.

If the Leftist Anarchists succeed in chasing tourists away from Spain, what is to be done with all the spare hotel accommodation that would become available?

Here's an idea. There are hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of Somalians, Libyans, Iraqis, Syrians etc. invading Europe, putting tremendous pressure on housing and facilities. There is a ready made solution right there and the Spanish could rediscover the enrichment they lost when they kicked out the Moors, all those centuries ago!

Siti ! ....an idea you say ?...possibly old boy, not one whose time has come so to speak.

True, blue sky, out of the box, thunking at it's finest !....alas, thereafter, and despite a tenuous and JB emotive ( invasion) offering, possibly thou should not have selected Spain as your chosen example....

They weren't averse to doing a bit of the tourist ( long term stay ) excursions themselves either....

But enough of the glorious history of Europe, let us return to the locations famed for their enthusiasm for tourist influxes....and the warm welcome that ensues...enter, after Portmadog,..... Carnarvon.

Caer. As in denotes the site of a Roman fort. (Them Romans knew how to commit tourism mind. No arguments about sunbeds with them, I'll wager. Not in Caernarvon anyway.)

the Leftist Anarchists ... chasing tourists away from Spain
One thing where I will agree with Left Anarchists:stay away from Spain. It's a horrible place, why would anyone want to go there. I certainly see no reason to give them my money as a tourist!

siti, excellent suggestion! Have you mentioned it to Frau Merkel? I'm sure that the same sort of German influence that got the Spanish that stupid time-zone could be used to move all those wonderful recent migrants on to take up residence in that 'Spanish leftie paradise'? At least they won't have to complain about the cold. Spain could then use this as an excuse to demand more EU funding and everyone can be happy!

Point of order! Porthmadog is one of the main stations on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways. Therefore it is a perfectly splendid place as it has steam trains. Anyone who thinks otherwise should be stuffed in the fire box of said train!

As someone who grew up around the whole tourism, holiday home thing I can well understand why the locals are getting pissed off.
The influx of tourists does not bring in much money or steady jobs, they push up rents and house prices. Maybe not in urban areas, but in Wales whole villages basically died because without year round occupancy the pubs. post offices and schools died off. Then the holiday makers stopped coming because there was no atmosphere. But the house prices stayed high so the locals couldn't afford to buy them when the incomers left.
The big thing now is static caravans which are spreading like measles along the coast.

Re Kensington, these days any enquiry for directions around there would have to be prefaced with:

"Excuse me, do you speak English?"

Chris, been to Florida?

We are in a tourist village. There is little cash transfer from tourists to villagers. The cash sticks to the shops, bars and hotels. However we still benefit as we have over 27 places where you can eat and drink (coffee etc) from breakfast to bed time. We have baker, two butchers, library, book shop, two hardware and only one charity shop.

Yes, been to Florida and eaten dinner at 5pm. (Did that in Portmadoc too, in the cottage next to the railway works shed, but there it was called 'Tea.")

We have a problem up here in Orkney, at least mainland Orkney has a problem - excessive numbers of tourists. Fortunately I only have to visit the mainland 3 or 4 times a year and I always avoid days when any of the big liners will be disgorging several thousand passengers to "see the sights".
The local newspaper has published several reports on the topic

I can see the problems these big cruise lines bring with them
Ricardian. When house sitting for relatives in the south of France
I've been at the market in St Tropez and with two of these huge
liners moored up in the bay the place is horrendous. I can't
imagine what the locals think. I suppose a bit like Orkney, it
brings in revenue but at what cost. It's like importing the population
of a fair sized town all in one go. Add to which I don't
think most of them knew, or cared for that matter, where they were.

It only happened 228 times, all to second home owners. Sounds like a coincidence to me

If it was an All-inclusive cruise they were probably too ratted to know.

And usually just after planning permission to extend the place had been refused.
