Lions Squad: Discuss!

Morning all fellow aviators who like the funny shaped balls!

Seeing as a storm of controversy is currently taking place in the press about the Lions Squad make up selected by Mr Gatland, I was wondering what the feelings were amongst those of us who have hours to debate such?

Bizarre or Brilliant?

As a proud supporter of the Welsh team (I even support them when they win!) I'm bemused by Warby's selection as skipper. He rarely lasts for more than 4 matches without a long term injury, and now he's a shoo-in for a test place. Can't work it out.

Doesn't matter who they select, they'll lose to the All Blacks!

Oh you mean warren gatland, obe?
Yeah top bloke, he got that obe for services to nz rugby and sport, not yours. It's a devious ploy by the mighty all blacks and nzrfu to make sure no European country ever beats the mighty ABs. You guys want to pay $1000/night for a shitty hotel room in Auckland for the lions tour??? Kiwis will win one way or another
Got introduced to wayne p here in Fiji once as the esteemed Fiji coach. Short conversation 'sorry bro, I'm a kiwi but I've never heard of you before, but while we are here talking I'm taking that girl tonite
Gordon tightarse...thinks shit don't stink and he's god...'I'll tell you something buddy...'
Another all black player thought he could make a go of an island resort...nah never heard of you either 'here's the offer on a take it or leave it basis'...$400k against assets worth $2m, he took it. They don't teach business school at nzrfu

Taking players from the England bench,12 from the team that finished fourth in the 6 nations and just 2 from the most improved team in the Northern hemisphere.Well that really is going to have the All Blacks running for cover isn't it.

I reckon Johnnie Gray and Greig Laidlaw can feel justifiably upset. That's about it from North of Hadrian's Wall (although Laidlaw plays for Gloucester).

Needs another out half in the squad, Sexton likes to tackle people with his face, and as such gets concussed every few games, and with Farrell playing center that only leaves Biggar as cover.

Halfpenny has had a woeful season, I think Zebo can feel agrieved, as can Launchbury.

Payne is only just back from a long term injury, the England game was his first since the Autumn, although he did play out of his skin.

Very happy Hartley didn't make it, he would be a liability, especially in NZ.

Lucky: Biggar, Halfpenny, Moriarty.

Unlucky: Launchbury (very), Ashton.

Good to see Sam Underhill in England squad to tour Argentina.

Ha!!! A Lions squad that only has 3 Kiwis, 1 Aussie, 1 Saffa and 1 Tongan?

They'll get smashed..

They'll compete for 60-70 minutes then the big northern hemisphere chassis will run out of oomph. There is also the freak that is Beauden Barrett to deal with...if he's fit and they mark up on him...there's going to be lots of space elsewhere.
The schedule as well is crippling...it's a big ask to win a game let alone a series against any All Black team.

And let's not forget Martin Johnson was a junior AB and they tried to keep him in NZ.

Lunchbox should have been in,so should both Grey bros from Ecosse, but all round I am quite happy with the pick even though a lot of the welsh picks have seemed a little injury prone this year....

But my opinion is the number of games in the time down-under will be harder on the entire squad.. than actually playing the AB when the time comes.. I will still wager against the AB.

leaving Launchbury is a very odd (bizarre) decision.

A lot can happen 'twixt now and push-back from the gate NZ-bound. I'll lay odds that the make-up of the squad on departure will not be as selected.
