How to delete your profile and posts from this forum, I've asked admin to do it but received no reply?

I've now been booted off the Brexit thread, I'm not sure if it's because of the the talking blocks comment or the deadist one but I'm fed up with the baby moderating.

Thanks but I've looked at doing that but I'm blocked off various threads.

There's no easy way to do this. I tried a few years ago, when an obnoxious AAIB investigator came on here posing as someone else, in order to be provocative, and who threatened to reveal my ID, which at that time would probably have cost me my job and pension.

I found that all you can do is delete your posts one by one. I spent ages deleting posts, one by one, before one of the mods stepped in, following intervention by another well-respected member here, I think, with the result that the problem went away.

You may not be able to delete your profile, but you can edit the details by deleting them through "User CP".

Cheers VP, I'll start with that and do the other threads when the ban is lifted.

Suspect there are people here who could knock up a screen-scraping script for you.

Bottom line, it's their train set, if we want to play with it it's their rules.
I don't have a problem with that, perhaps I'll wait for a rainy day and change all of my posts to say bum.

Doesn't matter if you delete your posts. There are robot thingies that scrape all the sites on the Internet copying everything and storing it for retrieval elsewhere, just in case, you understand.

Makes sense in countries with repressive regimes, rather less so with relatively free democracies, but times can change.

I find that it is best not to post anything that I wouldn't be happy seeing next to my name and address on the front page of a national newspaper. It has happened, although it was on page 5.

The rules on PPRuNe are indeed mysterious, but swearing, personal insults, or criticism of the professionalism of any commercial aviator seems to be the best way of invoking a ban. Obviously there may be some exceptional circumstances where such a post might be made, I can't think of any off hand, but then it is down to the moderators to make a judgement call.

I couldn't see anything in your posts that warranted a ban. Most of them were amusingly on target. Maybe I didn't get to read them all?

Cheers Gouli, i don't post if something annoys me. In all the sites I frequent, I have had one post pulled in nearly 20 years; here I have been booted off 3 threads in a month. I've posted nothing here that I would be embarrassed by, so I think I will just **** off, bye

As others have found on here previously - one can be given a 'holiday' from a thread from a fairly innocuous comment and yet not get a 'holiday' for a 'stronger' comment.
It would be a shame if you left the forum Engineer - I sometimes just take a break from posting (voluntarily) but always come back LOL.

PS I saw the other day that Nutloose had been banned - anybody know why ?

I've been granted leave of absence from many threads, can't say I take it personally, more 'pearls before swine ' in my mind . There are a few annoying chittering people on the Brexit thread who, if encounter in real life, wouldn't capture your interest and who carry no weight outside their own kitchen. Pour another drink and move on . Not at 8:30 am obviously.

I'm sure there are ways to have automated things, but at the time I didn't know of them, plus I was seriously worried about my ID being revealed and in a bit of a panic.

Like others here, and elsewhere, my employer used to forbid any "publication" that might relate to work, no matter how innocuous. Thankfully they did catch up with the real world eventually, and allowed people to use their own judgement when using a forum like this. Previously, they had used the blanket definition that "publishing" included posting on a forum (which, in law, it does still, I believe).

I got thrown off the Scottish Independence thread two years ago. I still don't know what for and I haven't been let on again.

I was the only one on the thread that forecast the price of oil would collapse from $115/barrel to below $60. Maybe it was my fault.
