I noticed on a recent thread a post (now removed) containing the following adjectives, describing a member of the public whom was named and clearly identified!

Combative, tactical, shrieking, petulant, infantile, degrading, attention seeking, appallingly antisocial, wailing, irrational, unstable, self promoting, atrocious, hysterical and wilfully theatrical.

All the above in a single post!

That covers about 50% of the posters on Brexit thread, and 95% of posters on the UA feeding frenzy thread. Lost in the crowd.

However, at least when you were removed from the thread they didn't cause any actual bodily harm.....

How is it possible to be found offensive at prune for saying anything derrogatory about Trump?

That would be a very hard thing to do!

No doubt Nutty's sense of humor rubbed some feathers the wrong way!

Incase anyone is interested, as someone who has built forums like these in the past using vB, to delete your account is very easy but only the owner and/or admin can do so

The majority of admin/ownrs are hesitant in doing it for two main reasons

1

Heat of the moment by the member who then regrets it later, there is a way around that but it take a bit of work by the admin/owner...basically lifting said account and all posts/threads therein and mothballing to archive and reinstating should the member decide to return at any time in the future

2

Losing precious database loses the owner of a board like this advertising income, all board have adbots crawling all over them and they have vBSEO or vBulletin Search Engine Optomising bots and they make sure that everything on here that is open to public view can be found on all search engines....nothing is private, even if when logged in you have restricted access, once logged out you and the bots have pretty much free rein to wander all over the board....except for personal profiles and staff forums that ordinary members cannot see and which are blocked to SEO bots

You can go through your threads and edit them but not delete them, only staff can delete but a copy is always left on the database...only erased when the board is terminated

So there you have it....I built board like this for around 15 years for an US based company and have experienced many cases of heavy handed arbitration, which as an admin I have always tried to avoid as it tends to get backs up....and when running a forum like this the extra financial gain from advertising and board ranking stats always helps pay for the licences, DNS etc

I was given 'time away' from the BREXIT thread several months ago.

Still can't log into it - but can't say as I miss it that much as there are plenty of other threads that I can add to if I feel an overwhelming need to add my two cents.

More strange, however, is that I find individual posts sometimes disappearing for no obvious reason. Nothing offensive, defamatory, stupid comment, etc, but away they vanish without any explanation. Most recently the UA passenger eviction, and I think mine was in the first ten posts ( but only there for a couple of minutes ) so it was hardly like I was jumping on a bandwagon.

Oh well....

configsafenot,

Dead right about the adbots. I use adbock and adblockplus (both available as Google extensions) and also Spybot Anti Beacon, a free download.

They show me the number of ads that have been blocked (thereby avoiding the associated cookies and tracking data) each time I open the internet. For example, having been on for about half an hour they've notched up 18.

My son recommended the blockers, he's a bricklayer and a secret geek !

The other thing with removing posts is that the threads then make no sense. Also note that if your post is copied by someone then it still appears in their post even though you may delete it..

I was given a holiday from the Scottish independence thread, I don't mind as it is the owners prerogative after all, but I would have liked to have known why.

Don't worry, you haven't missed anything, it's still going round and round in the exact same circles.

I have been given a holiday also.
No real idea what it was I said, regardless, it upset a moderator and that's that. Maybe he was having a bad day? Who knows? I'm not losing sleep over it...

This got me curious so I made a trip to the Brexit lab. Seems I am still a trustee.....However it's hardly a conduit of knowledge and reading through it some of the more persistent snarks must have fulfillment issues.

I too have been given a "holiday", or "some time away" from a thread. I didn't post anything rude, defamatory, libellous etc. But here we are 2 years on and still banned from even reading the topic re the German A320 that crashed in France a couple of years ago. Ho hum!

KelvinD,

I didn't know the thread "holidays" were permanent? 2 years! Surely not? Maybe discuss with a moderator?
You could sign in with a new username if you want to catch up on that thread..
Oooops, I may get "holidayed" for suggesting that...

Yes, they are permanent. Same happened to me a couple of years ago, curiously on a thread I'd not posted on for a week or so. I've no idea why, either. It's never good to question these things, as others have found out to their cost. Best just accept that seemingly random stuff just happens.

Thanks Jon - I did wonder if it was one of SD's posts that did it - shame as he seems like a nice lad - lets hope it is not permanent !

Not all permanent VP - I have had a 2 week holiday from a thread for (presumably) a fairly innocuous comment - but 2 weeks later I was allowed access to that thread again

I got some time off of a few threads a while back when I got short with a few people. Eventually, the probation expired.

I've seen posts disappear in bunches in big threads -- MH 370's disappearance was one such -- when the mods try to cull some of the raw garbage (which big threads often attract) and a few OK posts end up in the bin with them. A few years back, IIRC in MH-370 thread, one of the mods left a note that pointed out that it now and again happens when a major clean up of off topic and noise is being done.

I suspect that Brexit, being a very big thread, when it heats up may accrue a similar "clean up protocol" and if it gets heated, a few folks get some days off. Since I stay away from that thread for the most part, I am not sure if my analysis I correct, so take all of the above with a grain or two of salt.
