I use Duck Duck Go with Firefox quite often. It seems just as
efficient as Google or Yahoo searches but they don't store data. Or so they claim. (Microsnot's Bing is useless. Sort of like Microsnot.) And the best part of Duck Duck Go is they don't filter out any photos when searching for scantily-clad wimmin'!!!
(Try it with DDG: search for, I don't know, Boobs.)

On the other hand, DuckDuckGo does occasionally screw up.
For example. I just did a search for "hot blonds." I know what Google would return with a search with these terms. But somehow DDG didn't get it right this time. I got this:

In my version of PPRuNe those two ladies appear to have squashed the advert that appears at the bottom of the thread. Are they some sort of Ad Blocker?

Are you saying that other search engines store your searches?

Oh dear ...

Seems to be the case which is why you get targeted advertising on sites.

Interesting. when I search DDG using a couple of common search terms, my website comes up in the top 10. When I use the same terms in gurgle, it is several pages into the search, despite my regularly submitting a site map to gurgle. Also, the 'finds' in DDG are much more relevant.

Another search engine worth using is found here...

https://www.ixquick.com/

Ixquick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
On July 7, 2009 Ixquick launched Startpage.com to offer a new service at a URL that is both easier to remember and spell. Startpage.com fetches its results straight from the Google search engine without saving the users' IP addresses or giving any personal user information to Google's servers.

You not paying google enough to get your website on 1st page clearly.

I use a dedicated netbook which is not that powerful for all my internet activity and noticed that Goggle's search page has slowly been taking longer to load up. This is because of all that javascript crapola (jquery, stats, etc).

Right clicking the ddg.gg page is a bit better, but they should have gone the whole hog and removed ALL the javascript from what should really be a very simple home page.

I used DDG for yonks but found Startpage equally good -

https://startpage.com/eng/

And like RGB's pet searches it don't filter the wimmin pics neither.

Startpage is the original Ixquick. By default, it filters pictures by analysis of the search term, and most adult videos. It anonymizes search requests sent through to Google. DuckDuckGo is an anonymizing aggregator. For most people, they perform similarly, but DDG's also on Tor.
