On Tuesday, he interviewed Gun Owners of America executive director Larry Pratt, and appeared incredulous when Mr Pratt suggested more weapons were a credible solution.
"You're an unbelievably stupid man, aren't you?" Morgan asked during the heated debate.
"You have absolutely no coherent argument. You don't actually give a damn about the gun murder rate in America."
Although he didn't apparently call Mr. Pratt a prat?!
Whatever, Mr. Morgan, "confidently following in the wake of even President Obama himself", hoped to make waves whilst ignoring certain self-evident and basic truths concerning Americans and their Constitution:
N°1, was thinking that any repercussions would be of the same order as experienced in his last job as an editor of an unimportant UK newspaper and faced with a few disgruntled folk signing themselves off as "disgusted from Tunbridge Wells" or equivalent.
N°2, was forgetting that President Obama has the US Secret Service to protect him from all the wackos.
N°3, and perhaps most importantly, ignoring that he was actually insulting millions of US gun-owners (together with Mr. Pratt). And defying the law of averages. It's maybe not the 31,000 of legal gun-carrying Americans who've signed the petition who're any direct threat. It's all the millions of others, who didn't sign it, that should worry him. Who can really say just how many of these individuals have already decided their own personal and final solution to the problem?
One suggestion to CNN (until the situation in USA calms down): appoint Piers Morgan as CNN's special full-time Syrian correspondent based in Damascus. He should be safe (from US wackos and prosecution by UK authorities) for awhile...
Only because when Piers' career submarines, when he's prancing around stage with a cone shaped bra on, (coz thats what it'll come to Piers), he'll be doing it on your side of the pond ...
